Groundbreaking for Taos Pueblo's Hail Creek Travel Center to be held on June 28; the General Public is Welcome to Attend
On June 28, Taos Pueblo will conduct a groundbreaking for its new travel center facility at Hail Creek Rd. in Taos. The event scheduled for 1pm will be held at the project site and is open to the general public.
TAOS, N.M., June 28, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The new fuel station and convenience store will be located at the northeast corner of U.S. Highway 64 (Paseo Del Pueblo Norte) and Hail Creek Road. The Taos Smoke Shop now operating at the site will relocate to the new facility.
"Taos Pueblo will bring to Taos area drivers a new kind of travel center, offering competitive prices on gasoline and new goods and services for the Taos community, our members, and Taos visitors. This project that started in 2017 made great progress in 2018 and will become a reality in 2019." said Governor Richard Aspenwind.
War Chief Bernard Lujan. added, "we believe it will be a welcome enhancement of our smoke shop offerings and have a uniquely Taos Pueblo look and feel. On one part of the facility we'll have a nice outdoor seating area with a beautiful view onto Taos Mountain."
The Taos Pueblo Tribal Council approved the facility's design and construction and is managed by the Governor's Business Development Team (BDT). Hail Creek Travel Center will be managed by the Pueblo's operations team led by Jennifer Welty. The facility will be constructed by Snyder Construction and features design and engineering by NCA Architects with Miller Civil Engineering, Chavez Grieves (structural), ArSed (mechanical), AC Electrical Engineering, and MRMW Landscape Architects, each of the firms headquartered in Albuquerque. StoneCreek Partners (http://www.stonecreekllc.com) acts as owner's representative on behalf of the project.
The launching follows an active year for Taos Pueblo. In October, the Pueblo acquired the Lineberry Estate, a 14-acre property that had been part of the original Taos Pueblo land grant. The Pueblo intends to master plan the property that may include a convention facility, hotel and restaurant. Additional commercial projects are in planning.
Taos Pueblo (http://www.taospueblo.com) is the only living Native American community designated both a 'World Heritage Site' by UNESCO (1992) and a 'National Historic Landmark' (1960); the main part of its multi-story adobe buildings having been constructed around 1000 A.D.
