Guardian Optical Technologies In-Cabin Optical Sensor Awarded U.S. Patent
Passenger Monitoring Sensor Integral for Transition to Autonomous Vehicles
TEL AVIV, Israel, July 17, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Guardian Optical Technologies, a company dedicated to enabling "passenger-aware" cars, today announced it has been awarded a patent from the United States Patent Office for its "system adapted for monitoring a passenger compartment of a vehicle." Guardian Optical Technologies enables car manufacturers to build "passenger-aware" cars with a single sensor that combines more than 15 applications in one and will be an integral component for ensuring safety as the auto industry transitions to autonomous vehicles.
Patent number 10345137 was granted by the U.S. patent office to Guardian Optical Technologies.
"Any sensor system that monitors passengers providing a wide field of view and detecting infra-red light is now protected, intellectual property," said Guardian Optical Technologies CEO Gil Dotan. "This technology will transform the cabin experience allowing for new features to take place making the cabin's environment more aware and customized to our needs. It will also play a major role in creating a safer experience for drivers and passengers and will support the transition to autonomous vehicles."
Some capabilities of the sensor include passenger occupancy, forgotten items, forgotten passengers (e.g., a sleeping infant), driver monitoring, and weight classification. Its complete in-cabin safety solution features Optical Cabin Control (OCC), which monitors driver alertness by measuring factors like eyelid closure, head position, hand position on the steering wheel, and whether the driver is holding a smartphone.
"The new patent ensures that Guardian Optical Technologies will provide OEMs and automakers with a unique solution that provides multiple capabilities ranging from life-saving security features to potentially revenue generating benefits," Dotan said.
