Haag-Streit USA, industry-leading manufacturer of ophthalmic and medical equipment, today announced a new partnership with the Berkeley School of Optometry. The partnership includes a donation of equipment to the school.

“Haag-Streit’s gift will transform the pre-clinic at Berkeley Optometry,” says Berkeley Optometry dean and professor John Flanagan. “Our partnership with Haag-Streit USA creates the opportunity for our students - who are introduced to the teaching laboratory as early as their first semester – to be trained on the best medical and diagnostic equipment from the start.”

The partnership demonstrates Berkeley’s and Haag-Streit’s shared commitment to providing students with exemplary clinical training, and to the pursuit of new advances in eye care and research.

“This is an investment in the future of optometry as well as the students,” says Dr. Ernest Cavin, CEO/President of Haag-Streit USA. “UC Berkeley School of Optometry is one of the world’s finest teaching institutes, led by top scientists and researchers. Students receive broad experience in many disciplines including primary care, low vision, pediatrics, myopia control and many others.”

For 160 years, Haag-Streit equipment has set the standard for precision, durability and craftmanship. “Our equipment will help students and researchers at Berkeley achieve the highest levels of diagnostic accuracy with ease and efficiency,” says Dr. Cavin.

Both Dr. Cavin and Dean Flanagan see the partnership as just the beginning of a long, mutually beneficial relationship. “Dr. Cavin visited the Berkeley campus in August of this year and was the catalyst for the partnership,” says Dean Flanagan. “For that we’re very grateful.”
