Hammtronic Electronic Machine Management Enhances Efficiencies
Efficiency is the name of the game in compaction and Hammtronic is one of the leading technologies to support contractors in reducing operating costs, while still achieving optimum compaction results.
Hammtronic monitors and controls all key machine functions, automating everything from the adjustment of the diesel engine speed to meet the power requirements of the individual drives (driving, vibration) to controlling the start-up and braking process to meet real-time operating data (e.g. incline, driving speed, direction).
Hammtronic also controls the hydrostatic vibration drive and the various steering programs (for HX series only), guaranteeing the smooth movement of both drums evenly. All information that the driver may need is shown on the display in the driver's platform. Depending on the model and equipment, additional functions may also be controlled by Hammtronic (e.g. edge pressing and cutting device, water sprinkling, tire-inflation system, chip spreader).

Smart Compact Raises the Bar for Operators
Smart Compact is a digital compaction assistant that was developed by HAMM and which actively supports the driver. Smart Compact is an "intelligent compaction assistant" and is available for the tandem rollers in the HX series. Smart Compact not only controls the front drum, but also the rear - a key for controlling quality and gaining efficiencies.
The system is designed to support operators achieving best compaction results. Operators choose the layer type - either a base, binder or asphalt surface course. Smart Compact then automatically determines the best compaction settings for each drum – be it vibrating, oscillating or static. The system evaluates the asphalt's temperature and rigidity and the required compaction energy is determined in the form of big or small amplitude, oscillation or statically, and is automatically regulated in both drums.
Smart Compact also takes local environmental conditions and the accompanying compaction windows into consideration for the automatic regulation of both drums. This increases the process reliability and minimizes the risk of surface damage.
When the compaction is reaching the end, Smart Compact automatically detects that the dynamic compaction must be withdrawn. At this point, Smart Compact switches to ECO mode, reduces the engine speed by up to 20% and saves up to 15% fuel. Smart Compact therefore not only makes a decisive contribution to the compaction quality, but also to the conservation of the machine and resources.
Simplify Project Reporting with Smart Doc
When it comes to compaction measurement and documentation, the free Smart Doc app can be a useful tool to help with real-time compaction data. The Android-based app documents the roller's passes for soil and asphalt compaction, and it can be used with other brands' rollers.
Before starting the compaction, the driver can create a project as a construction section with information about layers and material. The app then records the most important compaction parameters during the compaction and combines these with the position data that was determined via the smartphone or via the smart receiver (option).
The number of double passes, the current working speed, the HMV compaction value, the proportion of jump operation, frequency, amplitude, and the asphalt temperature are recorded and visualized. In earthworks, the driver can also visualize the change to the compaction values from the start of the compaction. Target values, such as those for the rigidity to be achieved or the passes to be completed, can also be specified. The driver also has the option to create and manage separate layers. After completing the compaction, a GPS-based compaction report is generated and sent.
The app displays a compaction map that shows what has been compacted and what is left to compact. Compaction reports can be generated at any time and have been shown to reduce double passes by 30%.
The app can be downloaded at the Google Play Store on all Android smartphones and tablets from Android 6.0 and is available in German, English, Spanish and French. The app is available for the machines in the HC CompactLine series, HC series, HD+ series and HX series.
