In a world where neurodiversity is gaining popular currency, the need to teach both understanding and acceptance becomes glaringly apparent.

Harmony Healthcare announces its partnership with Tampa educator and author Kevin Howard to promote his children’s book series The Kooky Adventures of My Friend Kookabuk this April in recognition of National Autism Awareness Month. This series is a collection of social stories designed to entertain and educate all children. Each book acts as a guide to help individuals and families through some of the unique challenges autism presents.

“I embrace diversity and inclusion and strive to create a workplace that is understanding, accepting, and valuing of differences in people,” Christian Brown, founder and CEO of Harmony Healthcare, said. “Kevin’s books promote those virtues and teaches the importance of understanding and acceptance to young people in a fun and enriching way. I’m happy to join the Kooky Kampaign and partner with my long-time friend during National Autism Awareness Month to spread awareness and recognize that a diverse and inclusive society benefits everyone.”

As National Autism Awareness Month ramps up, the Autism Society of America emphasizes the importance of building better awareness of the signs and realities of autism. The month’s focus is also about celebrating differences so communities can be more aware of and more inclusive of our neurodiverse population.

“In a world where neurodiversity is gaining popular currency, the need to teach both understanding and acceptance becomes glaringly apparent,” Howard said. “My books are intended to help the neurotypical population prepare for inclusion as much as their neurodiverse counterparts. There is no reason why we can’t have fun while getting that done.”

Each Tuesday in April, Harmony Healthcare will feature exclusive images from the series to share on its social media platforms. These images will provide valuable tips for children with autism as well as their parents on how to approach experiences such as sharing, referencing, using nice hands, and meeting new friends.

“I’m excited to combine forces with an organization that promotes the value of diversity and inclusion,” Howard continued. “Harmony Healthcare is a leader is one of the world’s fastest growing industries, an industry made up of empathetic individuals who want to help others and who better to promote the virtues of kindness, understanding and acceptance than those who do it every day. The Kooky Krew is thankful to be teaming up with such wonderful people including my very dear friend Christian Brown.”
