Hayward Gears Up to Build Healthier Homes
Monterey, CA (PRWEB) May 10, 2016 -- Hayward announces new business ventures to build healthier homes. In an interview with the Monterey County Weekly, Bill Hayward, CEO of Hayward Lumber, revealed a number of new business activities to expand the company’s commitment to building homes that are healthy for their occupants. Hayward has recently launched Ahhm, a ceiling mounted radiant heating and cooling system. Hayward has also entered into a partnership with View to supply their Dynamic Glass to the residential housing market. These products transform the indoor experience by not only helping to optimize personal comfort in the home, but more importantly helping to manage some of the elements like moisture, humidity, and ventilation that can make the difference between a healthy and an unhealthy home.
The new business initiatives complement Hayward’s existing healthy home initiatives, which include Zehnder fresh air machines and building envelope solutions from DuPont Tyvek, Prosoco and Henry’s Blueskin. “Hayward wants builders to build homes that positively impact human health,” Hayward, said in his recent interview, “and our company is committed to offering its customers building systems that work together synergistically to improve the indoor living environment.” A special legislative committee on indoor air pollution in Massachusetts found indoor air pollution accounts for up to 50 percent of all illnesses way back in 1989. Today, the EPA considers indoor air quality among the top five risks to public health, noting that Americans spend almost 90% of their time indoors where the environment can be six times more polluted than outside.
While long committed to sustainable building and green initiatives, Bill Hayward’s focus on healthy homes was the result of watching his family get sick in their Pebble Beach, CA “dream” home in part because of an indoor air quality problem due to mold. He was determined to turn his personal experience into one that could be transformational for everyone.
As part his commitment, Hayward founded the Hayward Healthy Home Institute to evaluate the health impact of different building products. The Institute started by spending several thousand hours evaluating the materials used in the first Hayward Healthy Home in Carmel, which Hayward and his family now call home. The Institute continues to evaluate other products used in home building and makes the results available to the public at http://www.haywardhealthyhome.com so everyone can make healthy choices for their home. The latest version of the list was published in May 2016.
Hayward has always been a leader in innovative home building ideas, offering the Zehnder fresh air machine and a variety of building envelope solutions for many years. Builders know that they can count on Hayward for information on the latest building advancements and the most recent thinking of well-known building scientists.
