Dan and Rodney join a growing intellectual property team that is led by Partner Karl Braun in our Nashville office and Partner Justin Kerenyi in our Atlanta office.
Dan Miller is attached to our New York office, and he brings nearly two decades of intellectual property litigation expertise to HBS, and he has represented both Fortune 500 public companies as well as private companies and solo inventors in patent, trade secret and commercial technology disputes. He also helps clients obtain, protect, license, monetize, defend against, and enforce intellectual property. He has handled both offensive and defensive litigation matters in United States District Courts in Texas, California, Delaware, Nevada, New York, and Virginia.
Earlier in his career, Dan was in-house legal counsel at Google, where he managed infrastructure-related patent litigation involving Google Cloud Platform, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google File System and related software and hardware. He won the GC Award for his contributions to the Oracle v. Google case. Dan also was Principal Senior Counsel for MicroStrategy and oversaw commercial, patent and pre-litigation matters.
At the dawn of his career, Dan worked as a software development consultant and as a programmer and analyst for several companies, bringing a strong technical background and industry knowledge to every matter he handles. Dan earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law, a Master of Science in Computer Science from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Grace College and Seminary.
Rodney R. Miller is based in Atlanta, and he focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation, due diligence, licensing and complex transactional work, and patent office post-grant review. He has technical expertise in mobile payment systems, semiconductors, telecommunications, networking and software applications, user interface, operating systems, and hardware and software storage.
Rodney often assists clients with the development, acquisition, licensing, and monetization of their intellectual property. He has represented Fortune 500 companies including Google, LG and Mallinckrodt as well as startups and solo inventors in United States District Courts in Texas, Delaware, New Jersey, and California, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the United States Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
He earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Houston Law Center, and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He was named to the Georgia Rising Stars in 2017-2019 for Intellectual Property Litigation.
