GoInvo, a healthcare design consultancy headquartered in Arlington, Massachusetts, announces the launch of its new Web site (https://www.goinvo.com) with a unique focus on open source health research and digital design.
GoInvo’s open source initiatives have been featured in publications such as WIRED, NPR, and Patient Safety and Quality Healthcare Magazine. These include a ground-breaking, comprehensive visualization of the Determinants of Health (https://www.goinvo.com/vision/determinants-of-health/), the nationally recognized Care Cards (https://www.goinvo.com/work/care-cards), open research on care plans (https://www.goinvo.com/features/careplans/), and the Open Source Healthcare Journal, a magazine advocating innovative open source solutions in health which debuted at the Connected Health Conference last week at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston.
“GoInvo is designing the future of healthcare, and we think that future is open,” said Juhan Sonin, director of GoInvo. “Together with leaders and progressive thinkers in digital health, we are beginning a dialogue about open source in healthcare. We need to put a fine point on a mission critical part of our healthcare system, which is dominated by closed services, limited access, lack of transparency into pricing, and no patient-data ownership, negatively impacting all of our health.”
On the Web site, GoInvo showcases recent open source healthcare projects include the Standard Health Record for MITRE, a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC), and Health Data Basics for FasterCures, a center of the Milken Institute.
Standard Health Record
The U.S. lacks a health data standard. Organizations cannot efficiently share or manage health data, costing the U.S. healthcare system $80 billion a year. MITRE is developing a health data specification called the Standard Health Record (SHR). To drive development and national health IT policy, MITRE turned to GoInvo for help envisioning its technical architecture and imagining the services built on top of SHR.
Health Data Basics
Comprehension of health information is fundamental to well being, patient empowerment, and decision-making. However, a scant 12% of U.S. adults are health literate, and only 41% of individuals have even accessed their medical record. Driven by their mission to place patients first, FasterCures partnered with GoInvo to educate and engage patients on health data.
In addition to open source projects and research, GoInvo’s new Web site includes more than 20 case studies and examples of the studio’s healthcare design work over the past decade.
GoInvo’s design practice is dedicated to innovation in healthcare. Over the past decade, we’ve created beautiful software for patients, clinicians, researchers, and administrators, working with organizations as far-reaching as AstraZeneca, Becton Dickinson, Johnson and Johnson, 3M Health Information Services, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and Walgreens. We are a mission-driven organization made up of expert designers, engineers, researchers, and futurists, founded on the idea of making tangible and positive change in the world.
