Healthy Hearing Showcases Four Clinics Going Beyond Patient Care

For more than 30 years, Hearing Evaluation Services has provided the western New York area with hearing loss information and treatment. Dr. Rebecca Wantuck, a clinical audiologist on staff and the public relations director, helps maintain a well-rounded perspective at the center. In addition to traveling abroad to help treat hearing loss across the globe, Wantuck has also researched drug therapies to help prevent noise-induced hearing loss, specifically in members serving in the United States Armed Forces. Hearing Evaluation Services is proud to help patients find the right treatment for their ailment, whether new to hearing loss or familiar with it.
Based out of Utah, Nilsson Hearing Center is a family-owned and operated business offering personal care, evaluations, hearing therapy and personalized counseling to help cope with hearing loss. In addition to offering personal patient care, owner Mark Nilsson frequently reaches out to the community to educate and break the stigmas associated with hearing loss and devices. "The ideas that people have are based on old technology and the few people who speak negatively about hearing devices ... as a society we focus on the negatives not on the possibilities," Nilsson said.
Waits Hearing Center strives to provide the community of Fayetteville, Ga., with access to hearing loss assessment, technology and assistive listening devices. Owner and fulltime audiologist, Andrew Waits, and his staff work to offer a friendly, home-like environment the second the patient walks through the door. Waits and staff also use their time with patients as an opportunity to help educate them on the full capabilities of hearing technology, in addition to any other treatments or devices that might promote a higher quality of life. When not working at the center, Waits provides free hearing screenings at numerous adult centers throughout Fayetteville.
Joining the team at Iowa Audiology & Hearing Aid Centers in 1994, Jason Aird earned his Doctor of Audiology degree at the University of Florida. Because many of the patients Dr. Aird helps are unaware of the features and advancements of the current hearing aid technology available, he and his staff work diligently in the office and the community to help educate individuals on their options. "One of the top reasons people do not get hearing instruments is the fear of the unknown," Dr. Aird explained. "Will they work? Will others see them? Will I know how to use them? These are all legitimate questions and we take the time to walk through each one of them for every patient."
