New initiative invites Americans to share the sounds that define their hometowns and communities while raising awareness of hearing health.
WASHINGTON, Sept. 23, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Hearing Industries Association (HIA), in collaboration with the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA), launched Sounds of America, a public engagement campaign celebrating the unique sounds that connect people to their communities and encourages greater awareness of the importance of hearing health.
The eight-week campaign invites people across the country to answer a simple question: What sounds define home? From waves breaking along the shoreline to cheers from a hometown stadium, Sounds of America encourages Americans to reflect on the sounds that make up the patchwork of communities across the nation.
"The sounds we love are worth celebrating," said Bridget Dobyan, Executive Director of HIA. "So many of the moments that connect us to our communities are defined by what we hear. Through Sounds of America, we hope to inspire people to take a moment to acknowledge those meaningful sounds while having a broader conversation about the steps we can take to protect and preserve our connection to them."
Hearing plays an important role in physical health, mental well-being, and human connection. Yet many people delay seeking help for years after noticing changes to their hearing. Sounds of America aims to make conversations about hearing health more relatable and personal, encourage greater awareness of hearing loss, and reduce the stigma sometimes associated with seeking treatment or using hearing aids.
"Our hearing connects us to the people, places, and things that make our community," said Barbara Kelley, Executive Director of HLAA. "By inviting people to share the sounds that matter most to them, this campaign will show the public just how meaningful hearing can be in our everyday lives. We hope these conversations encourage people to talk about hearing loss and get the information and support they need."
The public is encouraged to participate in Sounds of America by sharing a video response on social media to prompts such as:
- What's a unique sound to your hometown?
- What sounds in your community do you never want to lose?
Those who participate are requested to use the #SoundsofAmerica hashtag in their post and tag friends and family members to share the sounds that are meaningful to them.
Throughout the campaign, HIA and HLAA will share stories and perspectives from hearing industry leaders and videos submitted from across the country, highlighting the personal sounds that connect Americans to home.
