Inspired by memories of 4th of July celebrations, Helen Merrell and Kathy Preuss joined together to write the children’s book, “Caleb and Sami Celebrate the 4th of July” (published by AuthorHouse).
Caleb, a young boy, is excited to celebrate the 4th of July with his family, friends and most of all, with his dog and best friend, Sami. It is a wonderful time of laughter and fellowship for everyone. Then the moment comes for the fireworks. Caleb stares into the sky with wonder, but the fireworks frighten Sami. At the conclusion of the festivities, Caleb looks around for Sami, but he’s nowhere to be found.
Though they search for weeks and weeks, Caleb and his parents are unable to find Sami. Every night, Caleb prays that God will help Sami find his way home. A year passes, and it is time to celebrate the 4th of July again. Caleb knows it won’t be the same without his beloved dog, but a surprise awaits Caleb this Independence Day.
An excerpt from “Caleb and Sami Celebrate the 4th of July”:
“For weeks and months they grieved for their family pet and canine friend, Sami. No one knew what had happened to Sami. Her food and treats were given away and her things were put up, as it was too hurtful to see these reminders daily. Every night as Caleb said his prayers, he said ‘I miss you Sami, please find your way home.’”
