Henderson County Tourist Commission to Host Cabela’s 2016 King Kat Northern Championship Super Event
Henderson, Ky. (PRWEB) July 20, 2016 -- The Henderson County Tourist Commission, will welcome the first 2016 Northern Cabela’s King Kat Championship to the banks of the Ohio River. Henderson has participated Cabela’s King Kat Trail for the past twelve years hosting tournaments, a classic, and one-day events, but September 23 & 24 Henderson will see anglers flocking from all over the country for a 2-day Super Event.
The large payout is what differs this championship event from other Cabela’s King Kat tournament events – $35,000.00 in cash and prizes is guaranteed to be awarded to top qualifying anglers. Thirty teams have already pre-registered and dozens more are expected to register within the coming weeks. Weigh-in site and event festivities will be located at the boat ramp on Water Street, right beside the Henderson County Tourist Commission’s office. Registration will be held on Thursday September 22nd, the day before competition, at the Economy Inn & Suites Hotel (formerly Super 8 Motel). Captains’ Meeting will follow at 7:00 p.m. Competing anglers must be a member of the King Kat Association to fish this event. A one-year membership is $25.00. Legal waters for the event will be Ohio River from the Cannelton Dam, South to the Smithland Dam. The championship weigh-in will be held at the Water Street Boat Ramp on the Henderson, Kentucky riverfront, (270) 826-3128. Event hours are 6:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. All anglers must be in weigh-in line by 4:00 p.m. Registered teams have the potential to catch up to five fish, individual anglers are limited to one blue catfish and one flathead catfish over 35 inches. Event coordinators will enforce guidelines provided by the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife. To help preserve the sport, only live fish will be weighed in and all fish will be released after the tournament. In conjunction with the competition, the Cabela’s King Kat Championship will hold the Cabela’s King Kat Kids Rodeo event on Saturday, September 24 at the Water Street Boat Ramp, at the Henderson Riverfront. The event is free of charge and open to all youth 12 and younger. Sign-up is from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. The Fishing Rodeo will last from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. All children must be accompanied by parent or guardian. The Downtown Henderson Partnership will also be hosting a Dinner on the River fundraiser with Peerless Distillery on September 24.
