Herb Smaltz PhD, Healthcare IT Veteran and Former HIMSS Board Vice Chair Joins The Chartis Group
Deep analytics, IT consulting and health system CIO experience will add to the leadership of Chartis' rapidly-growing Informatics and Technology Practice.
CHICAGO, Feb. 11, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/-- The Chartis Group, a leading provider of comprehensive advisory services and analytics to the healthcare industry, is pleased to announce that Herb Smaltz has joined the firm's Information & Technology Practice as a Director. Mr. Smaltz brings more than 25 years of healthcare IT management experience to Chartis.
Mr. Smaltz is a Fellow of the Healthcare Information & Management Systems Society and served on the HIMSS Board of Directors (BOD) from 2002-2005 and as the HIMSS 2004-2005 BOD Vice Chair. In addition, he is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and a two-time CIO - 100 award recipient. Mr. Smaltz also co-authored several books in the HIMSS Book Series, including "The CEO-CIO Partnership: Harnessing the Value of IT in Healthcare."
Prior to joining Chartis, Mr. Smaltz was the Founder, President & CEO of CIO Consult, LLC. He worked with healthcare provider and vendor organizations to provide executive-level professional services including IT strategic planning, BI/analytics strategic planning, analytics competency center planning and implementation, and IT and data governance.

Prior to his consulting and entrepreneurial career, Mr. Smaltz served as the CIO of the Ohio State University Medical Center (OSUMC), a $1.7 billion, six-hospital academic medical center comprising more than 1,100 beds and over 13,000 FTEs. In his role as CIO of OSUMC, he led the IT organization and served as an Associate Vice-President for Health Sciences leading collaborative initiatives between the three mission areas of the medical center: research, academics and patient care. He also served as CIO of International Operations for the Cleveland Clinic.
Mr. Smaltz earned his Ph.D. in Business Administration in Information & Management Science from Florida State University. He also earned a Master of Business Administration from Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems from the University of Tampa, Florida.
