Heroes Homecoming VII to Honor Service Members and Military Families with Week-Long Veterans Day Celebration in Fayetteville, NC
Taking place November 7-11, this year's Heroes Homecoming will feature more than 20 different events, tributes, and performances across America's Hometown
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C., Nov. 5, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Communities of Cumberland County alongside the Fayetteville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (FACVB) have announced that the seventh annual Heroes Homecoming celebration will be dedicated to acknowledging the sacrifice and service of all our country's brave soldiers, veterans, and their families. The 5-day celebration will feature more than 20 events taking place across all of Cumberland County, making Heroes Homecoming VII one of the largest Veterans Day gatherings in the country.
As the point of departure and return for thousands of soldiers, the Fayetteville area has always had a unique bond with veterans. "The bravery and sacrifice of our service members and military families deserve unmeasurable amounts of recognition and we are proud to be hosting Heroes Homecoming VII in their honor," said John Meroski, CEO of FACVB.
Marquee events during this year's celebration include:
- Spouses in Military (SiM) Expo - Fayetteville State University - Nov 7
- Operation: THRIVE - Rick's Place - Nov 8
- Veterans Day Parade - Downtown Fayetteville - Nov 9
- Veterans Day 5K & 1 Mile Run - Festival Park - Nov 10
- Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Rally - Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson - Nov 11
In addition to honoring service members, veterans, and their families through local events from November 7-11, Heroes Homecoming is also challenging businesses and organizations to participate in the Missing Man Table Initiative as a way to inspire and help educate the public on the importance and symbolism of the display. The Missing Man Table, similar to the Fallen Comrade Table, honors the memory of missing or imprisoned military service members. To date, North Carolina has more unaccounted for veterans than any state in the southeast, with a recorded 1,536 POW/MIA. Currently, more than 150 area businesses and organizations have pledged to participate, with the number growing every day.
