HERS Breast Cancer Foundation Announces 19th Annual Walk/Run Fundraiser
FREMONT, Calif. (PRWEB) August 13, 2018 -- HERS Breast Cancer Foundation today announced that registration and fundraising sites for their annual 5k Walk, 5k/10k Run and Community Expo are ready and available. The event takes place on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area in Fremont, California. Proceeds will benefit services for Bay Area breast cancer survivors, including post-surgical garments and prostheses.
This event, now in its 19th consecutive year, brings together breast cancer patients and survivors from all over the Bay Area, along with their families and supporters, to celebrate life and raise money for HERS, a nonprofit organization. Every year, runners and walkers of all ages and skill levels enjoy the beautiful racecourses and the lively community spirit of the gathering. Many walkers and runners form teams and wear fun costumes or matching group outfits to show their love and support.
The event website at http://hersbreastcancerfoundation.org/walk-run/ provides walkers and runners all the information they need for registering and participating. Donors, sponsors, and expo exhibitors can also find event details and contact information there. This website helps participants set up their personalized online fundraising page through the Crowdrise site. It’s easy to donate and fundraise online at https://www.crowdrise.com/herswalkrun2018.
HERS Breast Cancer Foundation is again partnering with the East Bay Community Foundation. EBCF will be matching online donations up to $20,000. HERS’ generous donors and participants helped exceed this goal last year.
This year’s event sponsors include: Fremont Bank Foundation; Beverly Hagan CPA; PetersenDean; Carol Dutra-Vernaci EA; Stanford Health Care-ValleyCare; Chief Craig T. Stecker, Retired; Fremont Association of Management Employees (FAME); Robson Homes, LLC; Lions Club of Union City; Fremont Elks Lodge #2121; Cloverleaf Bowl; Berge-Pappas-Smith/Chapel of the Angels; Republic Services; CV Administrative Services; and many more generous Bay Area organizations and individuals. A complete list is available on the event website.
Check-in and on-site registration will open at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 29 at Fremont’s Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area. The opening ceremony and dove release at 8:00 a.m. is an inspiring moment when participants gather in a circle to celebrate survivors and remember those who have passed on. Participants take to the course trails at 9:00 a.m. to walk, run or race for this great cause; 10K runners start first, followed by 5K runners, then walkers. New additions to the event this year include a Bollywood-style group warm-up and yoga cool-down. Following the race, participants will enjoy live music, nonprofit and vendor exhibits at the Community Expo, and a BBQ lunch hosted by Dutra Enterprises. Premier Subaru of Fremont is sponsoring the parking at Quarry Lakes.
Heather Holmes, KTVU FOX 2 news anchor, will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the day’s events. On Your Mark Events, a race event management company, will post race results online within minutes of completion. Awards will be given to the top three male and female runners in each age group for each event (5K and 10K). Every participant (walkers and runners) will receive a medal for completing the course. Participants age 18 and older receive a free T-shirt at check-in.
The 19th Annual Walk/Run fundraiser supports the HERS Breast Cancer Foundation’s mission: supporting individuals healing from breast cancer by providing post-surgical garments, wigs, and fitting services regardless of financial status. Those interested in sponsoring, donating, participating, or volunteering will find detailed information online (and photo albums from past events) on the Walk/Run website: http://hersbreastcancerfoundation.org/walk-run/.
