HOUSTON, Aug. 28, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Every 10 years, The United States creates a census to count its population and everyone is encouraged to participate. Sensing how the census can positively impact Hispanic communities, Hispanic Star and the nonprofit Love Soldiers have created the Futuro Hispano National campaign to encourage Latinos to be counted.
The campaign is asking Hispanics who are 18 and over and reside in the United States to complete the Census 2020 form at http://www.2020Census.gov. They will then fill out a form with their confirmation at http://www.futurohispano.com. Their participation will give them entry for a chance to win $10,000. The deadline to complete the census is midnight Wednesday, Sept. 30.
Participants will learn if they have won during a special program at 7 p.m. CST Thursday, Oct. 1 on Facebook Live and Instagram. The program will present five $10,000 giveaways and showcase Hispanic artists such as Mexican singing superstar Yuri and game show personality Héctor Sandarti appearing as campaign ambassadors.
Launched by We Are All Human, a nonprofit devoted to equity, diversity and inclusion, the Hispanic Star is a collective platform to unify Hispanics in the US and celebrate their contributions to the country. Engaged Hispanic Star Hub Leaders of several major American cities during the Month of Action activated a recovery plan or launched charitable projects to support the Hispanic community. Love Soldiers, a McAllen, Texas-based nonprofit is the Hispanic Star's operational and fundraising arm.
"As COVID-19 disproportionally affects the Hispanic community, we are also now facing the possibility of seeing our voice reduced to undercounting in the Census," said We Are All Human Founder and CEO Claudia Romo-Edelman. "As the fastest-growing cohort in America, we need to make sure the numbers reflect our reality to demand our full voice in policy decision-making. As a community, we need to unify and encourage everyone to participate and make our voice heard."
National Hispanic Star Hub Director and Love Soldiers Founder Perla Tamez also echoed Romo-Edelman's sentiments.
"There are many Hispanics who don't realize the importance of participating in this year's census," said Tamez. "When you participate in the census, the results can directly benefit how much a community would receive in terms of federal funds, grants, and additional support. This information affects schools, hospitals, roads and even the types of businesses that wish to invest in communities."
Tamez added that specific cities that are actively joining the campaign include Dallas, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Chicago, Denver, New York City, Albuquerque, Cleveland, Miami, Tampa, and Salt Lake City.
To amplify the campaign's importance, it is encouraging people to become ambassadors. Benefits include being featured on the campaign's website and its social media channels and accessing association with some of the best brands.
"With this campaign, we want participants to be proactive in spreading the word and have some fun at the same time," Tamez said. "If you are not counted, you can't have a say in what you want to see in your state and your community. Help us in our mission to make sure that the Hispanic community has the representation it deserves."
