Historic Majestic Inn & Spa Expands With Five-Story Addition
(PRWEB) September 03, 2013 -- The Majestic Inn & Spa, a beautifully restored 123-year-old hotel, has a stylish new twin located next door at 419 Commercial Ave. in downtown Anacortes. The addition includes 30 guest rooms and a 2,500-square-foot rooftop event and reception area with a stunning view of the San Juan Islands, Cap Sante Marina, Mt. Baker and the Olympic Mountains.
On the new addition’s rooftop, fire pits will provide ambience to the casual setting and the lounge will offer food and beverage items provided by The Majestic’s own 5th Street Bistro. The rooftop will be open to both the public and hotel guests.
Linking the two buildings is a courtyard that also has been updated. New landscaping and hardscaping, including a gazebo and arbor, are in place and guests have begun booking events and wedding parties. The area can be tented for gatherings of up to 250.
Guests may choose from a variety of room types, ranging from 300 to 500 square feet. Guestrooms they may select from include traditional studios to family suites that feature full kitchenettes, each with a two-burner stove top, refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave.
Low season rates (October-May) will range from $157 - $250 and peak season rates are from $239 - $290. The new building is expected to quickly sell out during the peak season and to have steady occupancy during the remaining months of the year.
Architect for the addition was Seattle-based Dale Sweeney Design, the contractor was Mega Pacific, Portland, Ore., and interior design was provided by WCI, Inc., of Beaverton, Ore.
Dale Sweeney, architect, said the challenge was to create an all-new structure that respected the design of the original, turn-of-the-century Majestic. It was the former the historic McNaught Building, constructed in 1890. Sweeney said cornice detail and window trim pick up on the elegance of the main hotel. “The Majestic is a real gem so we wanted to reflect that back to the community and the guests who stay here. The result is that these two beautiful buildings fit together even though they are more than a century apart in age,” he said.
Tiffany Weber, director of interior design for WCI, agreed with Sweeney. “The concept was partially driven by a sense of place—the charming old building itself—its location in a seaside resort town, the colors and energy of the sea, sky and sun. We wanted the experience of staying in the new building to reflect not only the hotel’s rich history but its surroundings as well.”
Weber chose a warm palette for the paint, fabric and furnishings to create a casual and comfortable atmosphere. The style and design of furnishings are complementary to the century-plus-old hotel but modern in feel, Weber explained. Local photography will be seen throughout The Majestic.
Russ Olivier is a partner and director of operations for the Majestic Inn & Spa while Matt Plier is the hotel manager.

The hotel’s popular restaurant, 5th Street Bistro, features fresh local products, Northwest wines and microbrews. The restaurant is under the direction of executive chef Erik Morris whose specialty is desserts, having graduated from the French Pastry School in Chicago.

The Majestic is located in the heart of Anacortes (population of about 15,000) which is on Fidalgo Island and part of the romantic San Juan Island chain. Rob Lee, director of operations at VIP Hospitality LLC, said business is good and tourism has rebounded in Anacortes so his partners believed the time was right to build an addition. The Majestic was acquired by Majestic Inn, LLC in October 2011 and found it in excellent condition after a $4 million renovation in 2005 which included updating functional systems as well as furnishings such as bedding, wallpaper, paint and soft goods.
