Hit and Run Driver Liable for Death of Woman and Child
Lilburn, GA (PRWEB) July 30, 2013 -- Police are piecing together the details of the fatal hit-and-run accident that happened Thursday. The driver who allegedly struck and killed a woman and young girl has been apprehended – but attorney Greg Stokes says he's liable for much more than just criminal charges.
An adult woman and a ten year old girl were walking along Lawrenceville Highway when a white truck jumped the curb and struck both of them, according to police. The truck was trying to pass a car and as it returned to its lane it swerved off the road for unknown reasons. Police say that the truck kept driving after striking the pair according to Fox News Atlanta (7.25.13).
The driver and his passenger were allegedly stopped shortly after and taken in for police questioning. Lilburn Police said the driver could face charges of hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter, among others, but Stokes says he is also liable for compensation to the victims' families.
“If your reckless actions kill another human being you are liable for the results,” said Stokes, a DUI accident victim lawyer and the founder of Stokes & Kopitsky law firm. “It's impossible to replace lost lives, but the families are often left with huge bills.”
Those bills can include medical costs, lost wages, funeral expenses, and the permanent loss of a bread winner, Stokes says.

At least four witnesses saw the fatal accident, according to police. Stokes says the driver can be sued regardless of the outcome of the criminal trial.
