MALVERN, Pa., July 11, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Beginning with its July issue, HMP Global's industry-leading WOUNDS journal is transitioning from print to an online-only, continuous publication model. The shift will allow for the more timely publication of accepted manuscripts thus making research widely available much sooner after acceptance.
Indexed in MEDLINE/PubMED, WOUNDS is the most widely read, peer-reviewed journal focusing on wound care and research. It will continue to publish 12 online issues per year, with articles added to the online issue each month as soon as they are ready for publication. The transition to digital will provide a significant decrease in the time from acceptance to publication, also allowing for faster indexing.
As part of the transition to digital, the WOUNDS website will also introduce a new feature, "Author Insights," where readers will be able to access videos discussing the articles published in each issue. This new section will highlight researchers, provide deeper insights, and encourage more interaction with the content published in WOUNDS.
"The move from print to digital has many benefits for researchers as well as the greater wound care community," said Dr. John C. Lantis II, Editor-in-Chief. "Through the continuous publication model, we can shorten the typical time between acceptance and publication by removing the need for printing and without sacrificing quality. We are also giving authors more immediate opportunities for citation and metrics."
He said the transition provides greater reach, with articles more readily available to a global audience. Also, since online publications are preferred by academic libraries, the move to digital secures academic library access. This platform potentially allows for greater worldwide reach, as well as the allowing for a more malleable reading format, and is better for the environment than a printed magazine.
Though regular print issues of WOUNDS will cease after the June issue, two print compilations of WOUNDS articles will be available in 2023: before and after the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) Fall meeting, to be held November 2-5 in Las Vegas.
WOUNDS equips practitioners with the latest updates to help address traumatic wounds, surgical or non-skin wounds, burn injuries, diabetic foot ulcers, and a myriad of chronic wound conditions affecting their patients. Information disseminated to WOUNDS readers includes research on tissue repair and regeneration, biology and biochemistry of wound healing, and the clinical management of various wound etiologies.
