OAKLAND, Calif., Jan. 9, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Dan Parker-King, PE, LEED AP, Northern California civil department manager and project engineer for HNTB Corporation in Oakland, has been named a 2019 Top Young Professional by leading industry publication ENR California.
Parker-King is one of 20 recipients from California who will be considered for Engineering News-Record's national 20 Under 40 program in 2019.
The award recognizes Parker-King as a leader and mentor to his fellow engineers, technicians and managers as they worked on transportation projects affecting millions of travelers throughout Northern California.

His work on the elevated terminal train station in San Bruno over three roadway intersections to improve pedestrian safety embodies the importance of his work in bringing the number of vehicle fatalities in that area to zero since the station improvement. Outside the office, he has devoted time to Engineers Without Borders. Through basic infrastructure projects, Parker-King and EWB provided communities in Western Kenya with access to clean drinking water, helping eliminate waterborne infection cases of cholera in the village.
"I was originally drawn to civil engineering because of the opportunity to improve cities through work in transportation," said Parker-King. "The recognition is an affirmation we've been successful in our efforts to change how people live for the better."
Parker-King joined HNTB in 2009 after he began his career designing drainage, utilities and site plans for housing developments, fire stations, campgrounds and hiking trails in California's Central Coast. As the Northern California civil department manager and project engineer for HNTB, he promotes training and community involvement throughout a department of 35 engineers and technicians. He has worked as manager for six transportation projects in the Bay Area since 2015 and last year, he helped the firm win a $24 million contract to support Caltrain efforts in modernizing control systems and track electrification.
Parker-King's selection is the fourth time an HNTB employee has been recognized by ENR as a Top Young Professional since 2015.
