HNTB Compiles America THINKS 2018 Public Opinion Survey Results Examining Americans' Views on Transportation
Surveys identify concerns, measure support for potential solutions and offer a cross-section of perspectives to help create innovative approaches needed for America's infrastructure and improved mobility.
KANSAS CITY, Mo., Dec. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- HNTB Corporation released its compilation of America THINKS 2018 survey series findings, highlighting Americans' views on transportation in the U.S. During the year, HNTB conducted four national surveys that studied issues associated with airport terminals, autonomous vehicles, public transportation, and congestion and tolling to help fund infrastructure costs.
While ballot measures throughout the U.S. continue to support funding for state and local transportation projects, the surveys further highlight Americans' support for transportation infrastructure funding and optimism about the future of mobility.
Among the findings of HNTB's America THINKS surveys are:
- Public perception of the passenger experience at airport terminals is improving. Air travelers who have flown within the past year are twice as likely to feel the quality of their experience in airport terminals has improved verses those who have flown in the past one-to-three years.
- Autonomous vehicles are rapidly developing and predicted to become commonplace on American roads within the next 15 years. Americans generally believe these vehicles will provide important benefits, especially new-found mobility, increased safety and reduced congestion.
- Recognizing that public transportation, including transit and rail systems, provide a critical transportation solution in the multimodal U.S. transportation network, almost nine in 10 Americans want the government to help provide funding.
- Increasing congestion on U.S. roadways is a driving force behind the fact that 79 percent of Americans are willing to pay tolls to avoid congestion and have predictable travel times, even when free alternatives are available.
As transportation and mobility concerns emerge, HNTB will continue to encourage dialogue and discussion among industry professionals, elected and appointed officials, and the general public by asking "What do you think?" as part of its America THINKS survey series. As in previous years, the results were compiled into a year-end report, including information graphics and additional resources.
