Melissa Chai selected as inaugural recipient; exceptional first-year applicant pool inspires two additional scholarships for Louie Teed and Rachel Ingels
TEMECULA, Calif., Sept. 16, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Hodson P.I., LLC has announced the recipients of its inaugural Hodson Truth & Integrity Scholarship, recognizing three students who demonstrated exceptional character, leadership, service and a commitment to making a positive impact.
Melissa Chai was selected as the inaugural recipient of the Hodson Truth & Integrity Scholarship. After reviewing nearly 50 applications from students across the country, however, the scholarship's Selection Committee was so impressed by the strength of the applicant pool that Hodson P.I. decided to expand the inaugural program and recognize two additional students: Louie Teed and Rachel Ingels.
"When we created this scholarship, the plan was to select one student," said Justin D. Hodson, CPI, founder of Hodson P.I. "Then we started reading the applications. These students shared stories about leadership, challenges, service, accountability and what integrity means in their own lives. We realized there were people in this group who deserved additional recognition."
As the first recipient of the Hodson Truth & Integrity Scholarship, Melissa Chai distinguished herself through a record of leadership, advocacy and service.
Her experiences include representing thousands of students and working to create opportunities for others in her community. Her application demonstrated the combination of leadership, initiative and commitment to others that the scholarship was established to recognize.
"Melissa represents so much of what we hoped to find when we created this scholarship," Hodson said. "She isn't simply accomplishing things for herself. She is using her abilities and opportunities to make a difference for other people. That stood out."
The original scholarship program contemplated a primary award of at least $2,500. But as the Selection Committee worked through the inaugural group of applicants, Hodson P.I. decided the first year presented an opportunity to do more.
Louie Teed and Rachel Ingels were selected to receive additional scholarships in recognition of their outstanding applications and the qualities they demonstrated through their experiences and future aspirations.
"That is probably my favorite part of this first year," Hodson said. "Louie and Rachel weren't selected because we needed to fill a second- or third-place position. Those awards didn't exist when we started. We created them because their applications gave us a reason to do something extra."
Hodson added, "Melissa, Louie and Rachel each have their own story, and that's exactly how it should be. Integrity isn't one accomplishment or one perfect definition. It's reflected in the choices people make, how they treat others, how they respond to challenges and what they do when no one is giving them credit for it."
The Hodson Truth & Integrity Scholarship was created to support students interested in pursuing careers in the legal, claims or investigative fields who demonstrate honesty, accountability, leadership and a genuine commitment to positively impacting others.
The program intentionally looks beyond grades and traditional academic accomplishments. Applicants are encouraged to discuss their experiences honestly, including challenges, personal growth, responsibility and the values that guide their decisions.
The philosophy behind the scholarship closely reflects the work of Hodson P.I., where investigators are routinely entrusted with finding facts, handling sensitive information and providing clients with accurate answers.
"As a private investigator, I've built my career around finding the truth," Hodson said. "But after more than two decades in this profession—and as a business owner and a father—I've come to believe that character matters just as much as accomplishment. Knowledge and talent can open doors. Integrity determines what you do once you walk through them."
Hodson P.I. also recognized the members of the Hodson Truth & Integrity Scholarship Selection Committee, whose members contributed their time and professional perspectives to reviewing and evaluating the inaugural applications.
The committee brought together professionals with backgrounds spanning investigations, insurance and claims, law, community service and related professions.
"Nearly 50 applications means nearly 50 individual stories that deserved to be taken seriously," Hodson said. "Our committee did exactly that. They gave their time, read these students' stories, considered their accomplishments and experiences, and had the difficult responsibility of helping us make our selections."
"I can't thank the committee enough. Their involvement gave this scholarship credibility and helped turn an idea into something much more meaningful than I initially imagined."
Following the response to its inaugural program, Hodson P.I. intends for the Truth & Integrity Scholarship to continue supporting students who demonstrate character and a commitment to careers where trust and ethical decision-making matter.
For Hodson, the success of the first year isn't measured only by the number of applications received or scholarships awarded.
"If Melissa, Louie and Rachel look back years from now and remember that someone believed in them at this stage of their lives, then this scholarship accomplished something worthwhile," Hodson said. "We're incredibly proud of all three of them, and I'm excited to see where their paths take them."
Congratulations to Melissa Chai, Louie Teed and Rachel Ingels, the 2026 recipients of the Hodson Truth & Integrity Scholarship.
