Holiday Hoof & FestivALE in Downtown Ferndale
Ferndale, MI (PRWEB) November 19, 2014 -- Start the holiday season in Downtown Ferndale on Saturday, November 22 with the Ferndale Downtown Development Authority and hundreds of runners and beer connoisseurs. Watch (or participate) as they run their jingle off and get festive in this year’s Holiday Hoof Obstacle Run, Fun Walk & One-Eyed Betty’s FestivALE from 12noon – midnight with the obstacle run taking off at 5:30pm.
Holiday Hoof & FestivALE is an all-day holiday party featuring Americana music, cold weather comfort food, 3.5 mile obstacle run, 2 mile fun walk and Christmas craft beer. It is tailor-made for music lovers, beer aficionados, serious athletes, weekend warriors and not-so-serious recreationalists. The highlight of the evening will be the Woodward Avenue Tree Lighting and Holiday Hoof Awards Ceremony at 7:30pm in the median at Nine Mile and Woodward Avenue, where over 7,000 bulbs will illuminate the sky. Plus, the Downtown Ferndale tradition of MetalliClaus, brought to you by Detroit Comics, will ring in the season.
“This is only the start of many more ‘holidates’ in Downtown Ferndale that everyone can enjoy,” said Cristina Sheppard-Decius, Executive Director of the Ferndale DDA. “Supporting local business and giving our community treasured opportunities to build lasting memories with friends and loved ones is our goal.”
Holiday Hoof (HH) participants, properly equipped with timing chips and reflective arm bands, will run in the dark and tackle 12 holiday themed obstacles, including the Santa Bag Haul, Deck the Balls, Rudolph’s Roof Climb, elf tunnels and a burning yule log jump will all test the mettle of runners. Participants are encouraged to up the festive factor by wearing holiday gear and lighting themselves up with lights for a competition of prizes, as well as fastest male and female, largest team and most team spirit. Holiday Hoof online registration is open until Thursday, Nov. 20, but on-site registrations will be taken up until race start time. Packet pick-up and start area on race day is on W. Troy Street, between Allen and Woodward. Early packet pick-up is being held on Nov. 20 from 4-8pm at 918 W. Nine Mile, State of the Art Framing. A portion of this year’s proceeds goes towards adaptive sports programming and equipment for Ferndale.

FestivALE, hosted by One Eyed Betty’s, takes place on West Troy Street and is the start/finish location of Holiday Hoof. An enticing array of Christmas craft beers on tap from Bell’s Brewery, Dark Horse Brewing Company, Short’s Brewing Company & Arbor Brewing Company; limited specialty taps of rare brews; amazing music line-up; cold weather comfort foods including roasted beasts of pig, lamb and goat, a giant tartiflette and long apple strudel; bonfires, heated tent and street performers. For those looking to not run or walk, and are only interested in the FestivALE portion, tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door.

• November 29th - Small Business Saturday with a special passport to savings to over 25 Downtown Ferndale businesses;
• December 6th - End of Prohibition Party benefitting Goodfellows at participating bars and restaurants;
• December 13th - Holiday Ice Festival with over 40+ ice sculptures, pancake breakfast, photos and lunch with Santa, hayrides, reindeer and home tour stops;
• December 18th - Merry Moonlight Madness, a late night ladies night.
