Holocaust survivor gives voice to refugees
SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) October 03, 2016 -- According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees website, the world is currently witnessing the highest levels of displacement on record with an unprecedented 65.3 million people forced out of their homes. The plight of refugees resonates strongly with holocaust survivor Gloria Hollander Lyon. In her recently released memoir, Lyon reveals an intimate portrait of her life as a refugee and survivor of seven concentration camps. “Mommy, What’s that Number on Your Arm?” (published by Xlibris) tells the true story of unforgettable evil and finding the strength to inspire future generations.
Lyon’s book offers snapshots of her journey to find healing and hope in the midst of horrific tragedy. It opens with her idyllic childhood in the Czech countryside and moves through the horror of her Holocaust experiences, her rescue and rehabilitation by the Swedish Red Cross, the life she had in the loving home of a Swedish family and, finally, her immigration to America.
“When my young son asked me, “Mommy, What’s that number on your arm?” I realized that I would eventually have to confront the painful ordeal of telling about my experiences during Holocaust,” Lyon says. “The human cost of genocide is too high, and the pain it causes is too deep. In some way, to some degree, it can happen again unless we are constantly on guard to eradicate hatred, prejudice, and discrimination among all human beings.”
Gripping, powerful and unforgettable, “Mommy, What’s that Number on Your Arm?” is an astonishing, firsthand account of one of the greatest tragedies of the 20th century. More importantly, it is a triumphant testament of the indomitable human spirit.
