LEHIGHTON, Pa., Dec. 22, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- An online community based in a Facebook group is raising spirits this holiday season in more ways than one. Honest Trav's Virtual Dive Bar was created by Travis Lindenmoyer at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic as a way to safely stay connected with friends and enjoy some drinks via the internet. Eight months and 90,000 members later, the group has raised over $17,000 to help families in need this Christmas.
The Dive Bar features daily shenanigans such as eating and drinking challenges, live music, comedy and sports. Honest Trav's operates by the simple principles of no politics, no negativity and original content only to bring people together while avoiding the divisive pitfalls of regular social media platforms.
A single $2100 donation from an anonymous group member paid an overdue rent bill to help a family near Youngstown, Ohio avoid eviction after they fell on hard times due to illness and subsequent unemployment. The donor and the recipient have never met each other.
The group also inspired its own beer. Honest Trav's Dive Bar Ale from Saucony Creek Brewing Company in Kutztown, PA is now available for purchase.
With members residing in all 50 states and 85 countries around the world, the Virtual Dive Bar harnessed the collective positive energy of the community to help ensure that families from the group who are in need have a happy holiday season.
