History and Hollywood have glorified the criminal careers of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Dozens of books have been written about the two outlaws, but very little is known about their female accomplice, Etta Place. Author Honor Lee pulls back the curtain on this historical figure and uncovers the real woman in, “ETTA MisPLACEd: The Woman Who Was Much More Than The Sundance Kid’s Girlfriend” (published by AuthorHouse).

Etta Place is known historically for her association with the notorious outlaws, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” writes Lee. “Anyone who loves tales of the early West, adventure and romance will be delighted with this story.”

After touring the west, Etta meets Harry Longabaugh and Robert LeRoy Parker, better known as the Sundance Kid and Butch Cassidy. The two outlaws have already made a name for themselves robbing banks and trains. Etta and the Sundance Kid fall in love and become inseparable. Their love survives as the outlaws are chased across the United States, and all three eventually flee to a quiet ranch in Argentina. Though Butch and Sundance meet their end in Bolivia, Etta survives. She returns to the United States and lives through two world wars, the Roaring ’20s and the Great Depression.

Of her novel, Lee says, “This story is true to the known facts about Etta Place. The story is woven accurately into the timeline of Etta’s life and events.”

An excerpt from “ETTA MisPLACEd”:

“Hell it all really started in the spring of 1896 when the girls got on the train in Boston heading for their aunt’s home in San Diego, Mabel making the full trip, Etta staying on awhile in Fort Worth before she traveled around the west and began her place in history - just by the name Etta. No one, except us, ever knew who she really was, though now she’s one of the most legendary women of the old west.”
