The Partnership Will Fund The Recovery And Processing Of Nature-bound Plastic Waste In India With The Goal Of Offsetting Plastic Used Required In Hope Foods' Packaging
SAN GABRIEL, Calif., March 8, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Today Hope Foods, one of the nation's leading premium plant-based dips and spreads brands, announces it is a Plastic Neutral Certified Product. Hope Foods has partnered with the world's leading Plastic Action Platform, rePurpose Global, to remove and properly process nature-bound plastic. rePurpose Global leads plastic recovery initiatives across five countries and three continents Hope Foods' participation includes a focus on an impact project in Chennai, India, co-processing multi-layered plastic (MLP) in order to offset the amount of plastic in use by Hope Foods. The partnership begins today as a first step in Hope Foods' long-term sustainability goals.
Hope Foods products, including its small-batch organic Hummus and Cashew and Almond dips require a minimal amount of plastic use to preserve freshness and maintain food safety requirements. Hope Foods' partnership with rePurpose global seeks to achieve plastic neutrality through the recovery and ethical processing of as much nature-bound plastic used in the production of Hope Foods containers.
"Plastic neutral means that we recover as much plastic from nature as we use in our products and packaging through our new partnership with rePurpose Global," says Aubrea Alford, Marketing Manager at Hope Foods. "By purchasing Hope Foods products, consumers can help us recover even more plastic from the environment. For each pack sold, we give back to rePurpose Global."
Hope Foods' program participation includes a focus on impact project Neela Sapana in Chennai, India to fund the co-processing of multi-layered plastic (MLP) that often goes uncollected in India because the material has no commercial value. The project funding enables rePurpose Global to collect the hazardous MLP waste and co-process the waste into cement kilns where energy is recovered from the plastic and the remaining waste is disposed of without harmful emissions. The funding also supports waste workers' incomes and provides access to an inclusive, safe, and dignified work environment.
"By having products certified Plastic Neutral, Hope Foods is not only tackling the plastic waste crisis, but also supporting waste workers' incomes by attaching value to hard-to-recycle plastics, and providing stable and fairly-paid employment opportunities through local waste management enterprises," says Aditya Siroya, Co-founder and Chief Impact Officer of rePurpose Global.
Hope Foods' hummus and dips can be found nationwide at many conventional grocers and natural food stores starting at $4.89 per 8oz tub. For more information and a store locator, visit Hopefoods.com.
