Hope For The Warriors® Grants Fishing Boat to Texas Military Family
Katy, TX (PRWEB) June 10, 2015 -- Hope For The Warriors® was pleased to grant a local retired Army veteran and his family a fishing boat over Memorial Day weekend through the nonprofit’s A Warrior’s Wish® Program. Fulfilling dreams for service members and their families, A Warrior’s Wish® is one of the many programs offered by Hope For The Warriors®, a national nonprofit dedicated to restoring a sense of self, restoring the family unit, and restoring hope for service members and military families.
Staff Sgt. Floyd Peters, USA (Ret.), along with his wife and five children, applied to A Warrior’s Wish® for a bass boat to take his family and fellow veterans fishing. After 23 years in the Army, he is now medically retired from the military and diagnosed with Traumatic Brain Injury and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Hope For The Warriors® granted his Wish for a Bass Pro 160 Tracker fishing boat to share his recovery process with fellow veterans, friends, and family.
“For years to come, this boat will bring me closer and closer to my family in a unique way,” said Peters. “Being on the water will allow me to return the favor to the community and other veterans through fishing groups, and more people can learn about Hope For The Warriors® that way.”
“We are so grateful for how the communities of Houston and Katy embraced this Army veteran’s family, as well as all service members, veterans, and military families,” Robin Kelleher, Hope For The Warriors® President, said. “We are proud to grant this Wish to fulfill our mission to restore the entire military family."
Bass Pro Shops hosted a Memorial Day celebration to unite the Katy community and dedicate the Bass Pro 160 Tracker to Peters at the Bass Pro Shops of Katy, Texas. A Color Guard and drumline performance by Mayde Creek High School NJROTC Unit 33577 honored this military family as well as all service members, veterans, and military families.
This year, Hope For The Warriors® has invested more than $71K to support service members, veterans, and military families through 11 Wishes. The nature of these Wishes vary in scope from business, fitness, financial, and outdoor-related. From recreational and household equipment, a musical instrument, a honeymoon, and the replacement of stolen goods from a fallen Marine, the enrichment process continues long after the Wish is granted to promote stability within the lives of these heroes and their families.
Both service members and spouses turn to Hope For the Warriors® and the A Warrior’s Wish® Program to fulfill goals of assimilating to their new lives. For these individuals and their families, once again enjoying prior lifestyles and activities is very much a part of their restoration process, and Hope For The Warriors® recognizes its importance.
Beyond meeting immediate physical and emotional needs, A Warrior’s Wish® fulfills a desire for quality of life beyond recovery and a quest for life gratifying endeavors. Whether the Wish is for equipment for a favorite hobby to support therapeutic benefits and rehabilitation, tools for a small business as a new means of supporting the family unit upon separating from the military, or taking a trip to reclaim themselves or experience something new, Hope For The Warriors® honors the goals and desires of wounded service members and their families.
