Houston DWI Attorneys at Corso Law Group Warn of Steep DWI Consequences During 2016 Super Bowl Weekend

This year, all Houstonians should plan ahead, expecting increased DWI patrols and alcohol-related accidents on the roads during the 2016 Super Bowl weekend, according to DWI attorney Christopher Corso, founder of Corso Law Group.
One Hundred Twenty-eight alcohol-related traffic crashes occurred on Super Bowl Sunday in 2014 according to the Texas Department of Transportation, resulting in eight deaths, which is a 14 percent increase compared to Super Bowl Sunday in 2013.
“Police officers know that Houstonians will be drinking while watching the game and they will be out in full force, looking for DWI offenders as well as other traffic violations,” Corso said.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation, studies show that 51 percent of Texans who report drinking at football watch parties say they have three or more drinks. And 45 percent of Texans who consume alcohol during a football watch party report driving home afterwards.
Last year during football season in Texas, (September 4, 2014 to February 1, 2015) there were 10,676 alcohol-related traffic accidents reported according to the Texas Department of Transportation, causing 492 deaths, a seven percent increase in fatalities from the previous season.
Drinking while intoxicated is a serious offense in Texas with even first time offenders at risk for receiving jail time and expensive fines.

While a No-Refusal Weekend has yet to be announced, such DWI crackdowns have taken place over Super Bowl weekend in previous years. In 2014, a Texas judge issued search warrants for the blood draw of nine people who were arrested for DWIs as a part of the initiative, according to KXAN.
