JAKARTA, Indonesia, Dec. 21, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The playground is a very fun place for kids, whether it is an indoor or outdoor playground. Playgrounds can usually be found in shopping malls, apartment complexes, public gardens or in private houses. They are great places for parents to spend time with their kids.
However, injuries sometimes happen in the playgrounds. The injuries can be mild like splinters, but it can also cause serious injuries like limps. For parents, an important skill to have is the ability to assess a playground's safety level. So, they can let their children play without being totally neurotic. How can parents tell if a playground is safe?
Top reason for kids' injuries in a playground is falling. So, the first thing to be assessed is the playground floor. If it is completely made from rubber or sand or other soft materials, then it might be safe. On the other hand, if it has exposed concrete or grass growing, it is probably not safe.
Another thing to examine is the vertical posts that support the equipment. These posts need to be anchored in concrete footing. If the footings are exposed, chances are, the flooring are pretty shallow. Shallow flooring provides very little protection when a kid happens to fall on his or her head.
After examining the surface, parents need to notice the wear and tear of the equipment itself. In a playground that looks old and un-maintained, avoiding the playground might be a good idea. It will be great if parents are familiar with the locality and try to avoid playground that has not been renovated in the past 10 years. Particularly, parents need to watch out on damaged or vandalized equipment that can snag clothing or jewelry, and report it to whomever who owns the site.
Also, every playground has age requirements that should be followed. Not every playground is appropriate for every age. There are 3 common age groups for playgrounds, namely: 6-23 months, 2-5 years old and 5-12 years old. These age requirements can be spotted pretty easily; usually in the entrance of the playground or beside the specific equipment in the playground.
In conclusion, playgrounds are amazing place for kids to have fun and train on their motor skills. Parents and kids just need to take necessary cautions to play safely.
