Howard Cotler, MD Offering Coflex®, a New Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery
Houston, TX (PRWEB) June 12, 2015 -- The coflex® Interlaminar Technology is a stabilization device for use in adults with one or two level lumbar stenosis from L1-L5. Candidates for the procedure have at least moderate impairment in function and experience relief in flexion from their symptoms of leg/buttocks/groin pain, with or without back pain. The procedure is only recommended for patients who have undergone at least 6 months of non-operative treatment.
At two years after surgery, 94% of coflex® patients were satisfied with their outcome compared to 87% of fusion patients. One patient of the procedure said; “I was in so much pain that there was no freedom. Coflex® offered me that flexibility that I really equate to freedom.”(1)
Based on the FDA clinical study (2), when compared to the standard of care (fusion surgery), patients receiving the coflex® device experienced:
• Shorter operating time and hospital stay
• Quicker recovery
• Faster and sustained pain relief
• Greater mobility at treatment level
• Natural movement at adjacent levels
Howard Cotler, MD is excited to be able to offer this minimally invasive surgical option to patients who are experiencing back pain but do not require fusion surgery, “This is a real breakthrough for people with spinal stenosis. It’s an FDA approved minimally invasive procedure that has great results with less complications. This procedure is a way to avoid more invasive surgery like a spinal fusion.”
