BOSTON, May 21, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Boston Children's Museum will open The Human Garden | Handmade, an immersive multimedia series by artist Lani Asuncion that uses technology to heighten awareness of our role in nature and asks visitors to consider their relationship with the everyday natural environment.
Asuncion has created an immersive video of the Arnold Arboretum that encourages visitors to imagine themselves growing with the plants and gaining an appreciation of our natural environment. Visitors actively participate in the experience by moving their hands back and forth above a grass covered pedestal, which activates a real-time interaction with the projected video, causing it to morph and grow within the space. The work encourages curiosity, observation, and play to explore and consider our human connection with the natural environment.
"This exhibit is an exciting and delightful combination of interactive technology and colorful moving images of the vibrant world of plants," said Faith Johnson, Arts Program Manager. "This fun and thoughtful immersive environment helps us to enjoy technology with a purpose – reminding us to explore our connections with the natural world and see how it is as full of life as are we."
Lani Asuncion identifies as a multicultural Asian American artist who uses video, performance, sculpture, and plants to survey how different cultures meet and mix to negotiate experiences of loss, transformation, and belonging. Blending digital media with elements of nature, Asuncion constructs interactive environments, like that in her Human Garden Series to present alternative perspectives on conversations around green spaces and urbanization. Her work encourages play and interaction in parks and green spaces. She resides in Jamaica Plain. https://laniasuncion.com/human-garden
