Humanity Healing International Saves Albino Child from Ritual Sacrifice
Oil City, PA (PRWEB) October 15, 2015 -- Humanity Healing International announces the rescue of an 18-month old albino child from ritual sacrifice after an attempted beheading by a suspected Albino Hunter. The child (Matthias) is now safe and just one of the many Albinos rescued by Humanity Healing International and is now supported as part of its on-going International relief efforts.
According to Humanity Healing International’s CEO Christopher Buck, “We are alerted when children, some as young as 6 months, are in hiding. Our charity finances these dangerous rescue missions in Uganda, as well as, provides safe housing, medical care and trauma therapy and education for the children and their families at-risk.”
More about Matthias’s Rescue
In a rural village southeastern Uganda, the mother, with the child on her back, was set upon by a machete-wielding assailant who tried to cut the child’s head off. The mother ran and dodged, but on the fourth attempt, the child received a serious cut on the head. Fortunately, her cries were heard, help arrived and the assailant fled. He was later arrested by local police and released, despite admitting to the attack, but local authorities fearing another attack had him re-arrested and remanded to a Ugandan prison.
Country Director of Humanity Healing International, Michael Sabiiti, was alerted of the attack by a Good Samaritan and traveled with his team to the village where the mother and child were in hiding. The mother and child were then relocated to a safe home and the child was entered into the Humanity Healing International Albino Rescue Project, where children with albinism who are at risk from human traffickers are placed in safe schools and homes, where they can grow, free from fear.
According to Christopher Buck, “Africa is still plagued by delusional superstition in many of its cultures. One of the most astonishing of these superstitions is the brutal tradition and system of belief that encourages a non-human approach of a very human group, people with albinism. This is a real human rights crisis of immeasurable proportions.”
In Africa, many witch doctors disseminate the belief that albinos are cursed. At the same time, others believe their body parts contain magical healing properties and can even cure “AIDS”. As a result, people suffering from this genetic condition are targeted as a prize for macabre rituals of human sacrifice. Persecution of people with albinism may occur for different reasons. One misbelief widely promulgated by witch doctors, primarily in the African Great Lakes Region, is that certain body parts of albino people can transmit magical powers. These "healers" happen to do a good trade in these body parts as aids for witchcraft rituals and potions, with claims that their magic will bring prosperity to the user. This practice is known as “muti,” or medicine murder.
