HWWMOH Foundation Celebrates Five Year Anniversary on Co-Founder, Medal of Honor Recipient Woody Williams' 95th Birthday
On October 2, 2018 the Hershel "Woody" Williams Medal of Honor Foundation will celebrate their 5th anniversary on co-founder Woody Williams' 95th birthday.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va., Oct. 2, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- From his early life experiences delivering news of loss via Western Union telegrams while working as a cab driver, to witnessing the enduring sacrifice of the Gold Star Families of his fallen comrades, Hershel "Woody" Williams saw the need to honor and recognize Gold Star Families and their fallen Heroes. From those seeds planted early in Woody's life, a vision grew which would become the Hershel "Woody" Williams Medal of Honor Foundation.
As Williams approaches his 95th birthday, he continues crisscrossing the United States in support of the Foundation and Gold Star Families. When asked what keeps him motivated to tirelessly pursue his mission, Williams commented, "The cause is greater than I …" That cause being Gold Star Families and the legacy of their fallen Heroes.
Initially the Foundation's goal was to establish a Gold Star Families Memorial Monument in Woody's home state of West Virginia. Once that monument was complete, a new mission became clear to Woody and those at the Hershel "Woody" Williams Medal of Honor Foundation to establish these monuments in as many communities as possible in all 50 states.
As the Hershel "Woody" Williams Medal of Honor Foundation celebrates their 5th anniversary, the organization continues to expand their efforts to serve Gold Star Families. Under Williams' leadership, the Foundation's initiatives now include the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument project, providing Living Legacy scholarships to Gold Star Children, advocating for educational benefits for all Gold Star Family members, and conducting Gold Star Families Outreach across the country.
