IDbyDNA Announces Engagement in United States Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Program to Detect Threats using Gene Editing Technologies
Leader in Clinical Metagenomics Collaborates with MRIGlobal, Mammoth Biosciences, Draper, UCSF, and Toolbox Medical Innovations
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 14, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Today, IDbyDNA, the company revolutionizing the use of metagenomics to improve health by decoding the unknown, is announcing its participation in the "Detect It with Gene Editing Technologies" (DIGET) program funded by the United States Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Working in collaboration with MRIGlobal, Mammoth Biosciences, Draper, University of California-San Francisco and Toolbox Medical Innovations, IDbyDNA will leverage its proprietary pathogen database and algorithms to advance DARPA's goal of providing diagnostic and biosurveillance solutions that detect infectious disease threats, anytime, anywhere.
"Now more than ever, the world — and particularly, the Department of Defense (DoD) — is in need of innovative solutions that can better identify pathogens and mitigate the spread of disease and other health threats," said Dr. Guochun Liao, founder and CEO of IDbyDNA. "This program will integrate our innovative technology in an effort to leapfrog current approaches to pathogen detection and better support biosurveillance labs globally. IDbyDNA will continue to seek out opportunities to partner with the public sector to leverage clinical metagenomics for the advancement of better diagnostic solutions."
The DARPA funding will expand the data feeds that IDbyDNA's Explify® Platform can analyze, including the signals from CRISPR-based assays, in addition to its current NGS applications to support overall threat readiness and promote stabilization missions.
