Located in Humble, Texas, and founded in 2003, Including Kids Autism Center has been helping children and young adults with autism for over fifteen years. Ready For Life is the next step in helping young adults with autism transition into independent life. The program is designed to help students learn these invaluable skills in a familiar setting.
Ready for Life features different skills classes throughout the week. On Mondays the program hosts a Fit & Fun class, teaching participants valuable fitness and leisure skills. Tuesdays and Wednesdays sport Home Learning classes, focusing on independent living. Thursdays feature Apps & Snacks, helping participants with technology and social relationships, while Fridays host Movie Club, providing participants help with their leisure and social skills.
The Ready for Life program is the newest way that Including Kids supports young adults with autism, though there are plans for more programs like this in the future. Including Kids Autism Center and Ready for Life founder, Jennifer Dantzler, said: "It is our utmost priority to get our young adults equipped with the skills they need to be as independent as possible and meaningfully involved in our community. These services are the first of many to come to help our young adults on the spectrum."
Registration for Ready for Life is currently open. The program is available to young adults over the age of 16, who want to work on their social and independent living skills. Ready for Life features different programs on different days, but participants must be able to participate in a 3:1 or 5:1 group ratio. About Including Kids Autism Center
Including Kids Autism Center was founded in 2003 at a time when autism was reaching epidemic levels and there were very few services offered in the state of Texas. In response to the needs of the community and fueled by her passion for autism advocacy, Jennifer Dantzler and a loyal Board of Directors started the Including Kids Autism Center. They have created a full-time program that continues to change the lives of children and young adults with autism, offering them a chance to be included in the community. Today, Including Kids Autism Center has served over one thousand families. To learn more, visit includingkids.org.
