Insurance Jobs Up By 4,100 in December, Down Year-Over-Year
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) January 31, 2017 -- The insurance industry gained 4,100 jobs in December, according to preliminary numbers revealed in the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Economic Situation Report released on Friday, January 6, 2017.
“Since the beginning of the year, the insurance industry has gained 43,600 jobs,” said Jay Rollins, owner of the insurance employment website InsuranceJobs.com. “Last month’s gains come after November’s loss of 2,100 jobs, the only month in 2016 to experience job losses”.
The insurance industry ended the year with 2,620,400 employed workers and an unemployment rate of 1.8 percent. “The last three months of 2016 saw the lowest unemployment rates of the year,” said Rollins. “While the difference is not dramatic, unemployment averaged 1.6 percent for the final quarter of 2016 compared to the monthly average of 2.46 percent for the entire year.”
Overall employment gains for 2016 were 37.9 percent lower than increases made the previous year. In 2015, the industry accumulated 70,300 insurance jobs from January to December with a monthly average gain of 5,850 jobs. In 2016, however, employed gains averaged 3,900 jobs per month, a 33 decrease over the previous year.
