Many new and upcoming graduates prefer in-person work, recognize the importance of company ethics, and possess high minimum salary expectations
SEATTLE, June 16, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Intelligent.com, a trusted resource for online degree rankings and higher education planning, has published a recent survey report that explores the factors that higher education students consider during job searches. Researchers analyzed responses from 345 higher education students, ages 20 to 25, from the graduating classes of 2022, 2023 or 2024.
According to the survey, 43 percent of new and upcoming graduates ranked 'in-person only' as their top choice for job location, while 34 percent say 'hybrid' and 23 percent say 'remote only.' Aside from job location, another important factor that respondents consider during their job search is minimum salary. Although the average starting salary for someone with a bachelor's degree is close to $60,000, 1 in 4 respondents say the minimum salary they would consider for a full-time job is $70,000.
Survey results also highlight the importance of company ethics among this generation of workers. Ninety-one percent say a company's ethical standpoint is 'very' or 'somewhat' important. Among this group, 71 percent say 'company ethics are equally as important as salary, 18 percent say 'company ethics are more important than salary,' and 11 percent say 'company ethics are less important than salary.'
This survey was commissioned by Intelligent.com and conducted online by the survey platform Prodege from May 26 to June 5, 2023. In total, 345 respondents completed the full survey. All respondents were screened to ensure they were between the ages of 20 and 25 and intended to enter the workforce upon graduation. Sixteen percent of the respondents graduated in the class of 2022, 14 percent graduated in the class of 2023, and 70 percent will graduate in the class of 2024. Nine percent of respondents are graduating or have graduated from community college, 76 percent from a 4-year college, and 13 percent from graduate school.
