Since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, many students have used it to study English, 'hard' sciences, 'soft' sciences and math
SEATTLE, May 30, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Intelligent.com, a trusted resource for online degree rankings and higher education planning, has published a recent survey report that explores the prevalence of ChatGPT use among undergraduate and graduate students. The report also shares insight on sentiment surrounding the AI tool. Overall, researchers analyzed responses from 1,223 current undergraduate and graduate students in the United States.
According to the report, 30 percent of college students say they have used ChatGPT to do schoolwork. Of this group, 46 percent say they 'somewhat' or 'very' frequently used ChatGPT in the past school year. Additionally, 49 percent say they used ChatGPT for English and 41 percent say 'hard' sciences such as chemistry and biology.
The study shows that 78 percent of college ChatGPT users are 'somewhat' or 'highly' likely to recommend using ChatGPT to study to other students. Furthermore, among student ChatGPT users who did not already have a 4.0 grade point average during the fall 2022 semester, 1 in 5 say their GPA increased from fall 2022 to spring 2023 while 4 in 5 did not see an improvement in their grades.
All data referenced in this release derives from a survey commissioned by Intelligent.com and conducted online by SurveyMonkey from May 12 to 15, 2023. Respondents consist of a national sample of 1,223 current college students ages 18 to 30, identified here as part-time at a two-year undergraduate, full-time at a two-year undergraduate, part-time at a four-year college, full-time at a four-year college, part-time in graduate school, or full-time in graduate school.
