BOSTON, Nov. 13, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Boston Children's Museum will open the Interconnected installation by Silvia Lopez Chavez on November 16. The large-scale site specific installation uses recycled molded paper pulp packaging, stencils, and bright colorful paints that spark curiosity and imagination to transform everyday objects.
This exhibit showcases how individuals can better understand how everyone is connected and are all part of a greater whole. Urban planners, architects, scientists, engineers, and designers, use creativity to solve problems and make the world more beautiful by looking at connections in daily life. The connections continue through a video illustrating how paper pulp shapes are made to highlight the energy and resources it takes to create objects that we see as "trash." Some of the most important environmental efforts include conserving energy and reducing water consumption, but pollution can be reduced by recycling and finding new ways to reuse. The exhibit concludes with an invitation for visitors to stack and arrange their own recycled paper pulp pieces.
"Silvia Lopez Chavez has created large-scale public murals that can be seen all over Boston. Interconnected is a delightful way of bringing her public art flavor inside for our visitors to explore up close," said Faith Johnson, Museum Arts Program Manager. "This vibrant exhibit playfully illuminates our interconnectedness with a flow of shapes, colors, and textures, while incorporating recycled materials."
With roots in the Dominican Republic, Silvia is an interdisciplinary artist who has based her art practice in the Boston area for over 15 years.
