Interior Designer Michelle Rohrer-Lauer Earns "Designer of the Year" Award for Sustainable, Eco-Friendly Interior Design
"Green Queen" interior designer Michelle Rohrer-Lauer, principal of Michelle's Interiors in Chicago, has just received her third interior design award of 2020.The Sustainable Furnishings Council and Interior Design Society presented the "Designer of the Year" award to Michelle during a virtual celebration of the fourth annual #GetYourGreenOn competition.
CHICAGO, Oct. 22, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The contest honors interior designers who specify sustainable and healthful home furnishings for their clients' residences.

Last week, Michelle received Best Bathroom for a Small Firm 2020 from the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), Illinois Chapter, and earlier this year she took home an AABE, (Annual Awards for Business Excellence) from the Daily Herald's Business Ledger.

Among the eco-friendly materials used, she chose:
- Reclaimed French farm house wood for the flooring throughout much of the home
- Sustainable, fast-growing eucalyptus wood for the kitchen and master bath cabinets
- Natural fibers for upholstery, rugs and window treatments, including wool, cotton, flax, linen, bamboo and silk
- Sustainably grown and harvested wood for furniture frames
"Throughout this home, I encouraged my clients to "get their green on," not only for the health benefits to them and the globe, but for the beauty and authenticity of the design," said Michelle. "It is my goal to educate clients about the importance of sustainable design because they don't typically have that in mind when they come to me."
Michelle calls her eco-friendly philosophy "Fifty Shades of Green." She believes that our homes don't have to be completely "green" to improve the environment. "It's like buying organic foods or exercising," says Michelle. "You don't have to go completely organic or work out like an athlete to improve your own health, and you don't have to go completely "green" to help the environment.
