Broadcast highlights the choreographer's work and international influence.
INTERLOCHEN, Michigan, Nov. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Interlochen dance faculty member Katie Dorn appears in the BBC feature "The minimalist choreographer who changed dance forever," which aired October 23 and explores choreographer Lucinda Childs's work and influence.
The feature was filmed while the company was rehearsing and performing at Bard College's SummerScape festival this summer. Dorn can be seen at the 2:31 mark in the excerpt available through the BBC's Arts in Motion webpage.
"I feel honored to have been part of this BBC feature, filmed while the company was rehearsing and performing at Bard College's SummerScape festival this summer. Having worked with Lucinda Childs for so many years, it's wonderful to see her work celebrated in this way. Her continued dedication to creating and performing is something I find incredibly inspiring and hope to pass along to my students here at Interlochen. It's also exciting to see dance given this kind of attention, introducing a wider audience to Lucinda's work and an art form I care deeply about," said Dorn.
Dorn's appearance offers audiences an opportunity to see an Interlochen educator performing beyond the classroom. Her recent work at Interlochen also includes choreography for students: her piece 2V2 was featured in the Academy's fall dance performances.
The connection to Childs's choreography extends to students' learning experiences. This semester, Dorn and visiting James Madison University professor Matt Pardo led a contemporary dance workshop in Childs's choreography for Interlochen students.
Together, these activities illustrate the connection between faculty members' professional practice and the artistic experiences they bring to students.
