HERNDON, Va., Jan. 6, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA)®, presented by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), is open for entries through March 16, 2020. One of the world's most prestigious and rigorous design competitions, IDEA kicks off its 40th year with a wide range of design categories, a jury of individuals from renowned design companies and educational institutions, and a new jury chair: Jonah Becker, IDSA, SVP of Design at FitBit.
"I am honored and excited to serve as jury chair of the 2020 IDEA program," says Becker. "I think IDEA is without question one of the premier award programs for our industry, and I think the evidence can be seen in the amazing people who are part of the jury. It's the caliber of the entrants. It's the rigor of the submission and review process. And ultimately, it's reflected in the quality of the work that's recognized by IDEA."
An accomplished industrial designer and leader of the ID, UX, UX Research, and Design Operations teams at FitBit, Becker previously served on the IDEA jury in 2012.
"I am very much looking forward to working for the jurors who will be serving in the second year of jury service, as well as being a key part of recruiting new jurors for the 2020 program," Becker declares. "I am deeply committed to increasing the visibility and participation in the 2020 program, as well as ensuring that it continues to reflect the best that our industry has to offer."
The IDEA 2020 jury features 40 experts from some of the world's largest brands, including Adobe, Apple, Casper, Samsung, Knoll, and Nike; major design studios, such as IDEO, Fjord, Newell Brands, Nichetto Studio, and McKinsey Design; and leading universities.
Originally founded to recognize exceptional achievement in industrial design, the IDEA program has since grown to highlight design in many connected disciplines. The IDEA 2020 categories are: Automotive & Transportation, Branding, Children's Products, Commercial & Industrial Products, Consumer Technology, Design Strategy, Digital Interaction, Environments, Home, Furniture & Lighting, Lifestyle & Accessories, Medical & Health, Office & Accessories, Outdoor & Gardens, Packaging, Service Design, Social Impact Design, Sports, Leisure & Recreation, and Student.
IDEA provides designers with the opportunity for worldwide recognition. Top winners are featured in INNOVATION magazine's Yearbook of Design Excellence and the IDEA Gallery. Winning IDEA products are entered into the permanent collection of The Henry Ford Museum, where they remain ever-present symbols of ingenuity and mastery of craft.
Each year, thousands of entries are submitted by design teams across the globe, making IDEA one of the largest and most widely anticipated annual awards programs in the world. IDEA set the benchmark for what a design award represents and has endured to become a career-defining catalyst for those talented enough to win.
In 2018, the IDEA trophies received a beautiful redesign with the help of fuseproject—the design studio founded by longtime IDSA member Yves Béhar. "For anyone who is a maker, who is building something, it's the ultimate achievement to win an IDEA," says Béhar. "IDEA is the award by designers, for designers. Fuseproject worked with IDSA to rebrand IDEA and redesign the trophy to reflect the evolving industry it celebrates."
