Introducing MATTER OF FACT: Moving the Science of Skincare Forward through Evidence-Based, Breakthrough Technologies
MATTER OF FACT's first-to-market technology represents the most significant advancement in skincare in nearly two decades, launching with a first-to-market breakthrough Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) Formula with unmatched stability, potency, and cosmetic elegance.
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 28, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- MATTER OF FACT, a new skincare brand, launches today with two groundbreaking products from its revolutionary and unprecedented skincare line: ASCORBIC ACID 20 BRIGHTENING C SERUM and MINIMALIST HYDRATING CREAM. Informed by more than a decade of research, robust clinical studies, and product development done by Founder, Formulator, and CEO, Paul Baek, MATTER OF FACT's collection of patent-pending technologies represents the most significant advancement in skincare in nearly two decades. Most notably, MATTER OF FACT has cracked the elusive code for stabilizing Vitamin C — with clinically-proven results verifying efficacy and safety across light to dark skin tones.
Born out of a personal search for truly innovative and effective skincare products that keep pace with scientific advancements, MATTER OF FACT makes a bold promise to consumers—to always deliver thoughtfully formulated, evidence-based products; and provide clear, straightforward information that empowers every consumer, regardless of skin type or tone. Through true transparency, and the rigorous scientific validation of product benefits, MATTER OF FACT makes it easy for consumers to make informed choices about their skincare.
"We want to move the science of skincare forward," said MATTER OF FACT Founder Paul Baek. "Innovation in topical skincare has pretty much been at a standstill for almost two decades now and I think it's about time to get the industry moving in that direction again. It's our goal to motivate skincare consumers, brands, and formulators to throw away their cynicism and explore new and better ways to deliver beneficial ingredients to the skin."
MATTER OF FACT's breakthrough formulations are made possible by a dedicated in-house research and development approach, which offers a pathway to industry-first technologies, all validated through rigorous clinical testing. MATTER OF FACT's ASCORBIC ACID 20 BRIGHTENING C SERUM was tested in two separate 12-week independent clinical studies, producing significant improvements in skin brightness, fine lines, and wrinkles, as measured by both clinician grading and instrumentation. Notably, 100% of participants - across different ages and skin tones - agreed that their skin looked brighter, smoother, and more youthful and healthy after just 14 days of usage when used concurrently with MATTER OF FACT's MINIMALIST HYDRATING CREAM.
The debut products from MATTER OF FACT include:
ASCORBIC ACID 20 BRIGHTENING C SERUM (10 mL - $36; 30 mL - $92): The only Vitamin C serum on the market that doesn't force consumers to choose between stability, potency, and cosmetic elegance, MATTER OF FACT's ASCORBIC ACID 20 BRIGHTENING C SERUM is proven effective and safe across a diverse range of skin tones. With a potent 20%, fully solubilized concentration of Ascorbic Acid and a first-to-market waterless delivery system that offers superior stability - MATTER OF FACT'S ASCORBIC ACID 20 BRIGHTENING C SERUM outlasts and outperforms other leading Vitamin C products by a 500% margin — retaining unmatched stability at 94.25% (close to full strength) after 16 months.

About The Founder, Paul Baek
The road to creating MATTER OF FACT is as innovative and interesting as the products themselves. American-born Paul Baek is the son of Korean-born parents, who moved to the US in the early 1980s for his mother to pursue her Ph.D. in chemistry. During his childhood, Paul's father started a beauty supply store, and his childhood exposure to their work in science and business laid the foundation for Paul's early interest in skincare and research. With a rare yet brilliant mind for both science and art, Paul graduated from Harvard and pursued a K-pop career as a recording artist in South Korea. His experience within the heavily image-conscious and international music industry further exposed him to the full beauty and skincare world—and the wide chasm of quality between products that often don't work for all skin tones and types. He sought effective and inclusive solutions, and thus returned to school. He earned his MBA from Wharton and also studied cosmetic formulation—specifically, emulsion technology—under the tutelage of a veteran chemist and formulator.
Paul's years of dedicated work and research culminated in the unique technology that is the foundation for MATTER OF FACT: the breakthrough ability to fully dissolve high concentrations of Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) without compromising stability or cosmetic elegance. Baek created MATTER OF FACT to bring his work to people in search of better, more effective skincare solutions. The results of his remarkable work and first-of-their-kind formulations have already drawn some of the world's most regarded investors: Horizons Ventures, First Round Capital, and Cowboy Ventures.
About ASCORBIC ACID 20 BRIGHTENING C SERUM
Ascorbic Acid, the biologically active form of Vitamin C, long regarded for its anti-aging properties, and well-documented to improve the appearance of skin, is also notoriously unstable, suffering largely from imperfect delivery to the skin. Baek made solving this the major focus of his work with MATTER OF FACT and has the empirical data to prove it. MATTER OF FACT's first-to-market technology uses a waterless delivery system that stabilizes Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), preventing degradation and decreased product efficacy, while avoiding the grittiness and pilling of other formulations. While other Vitamin C serums on the market experience significant degradation in just the first few months, even in an unopened container, and with the inclusion of additional antioxidants, MATTER OF FACT'S ASCORBIC ACID 20 BRIGHTENING C SERUM outlasts and outperforms these serums, specifically retaining unmatched stability of 94.25% (close to full strength), after simulating 16 months at room temperature. By comparison, other water-based solutions have been shown to plummet to less than 88% Ascorbic Acid concentration after just after 4months under identical conditions.
The combination of ingredients in the ASCORBIC ACID 20 BRIGHTENING C SERUM (20% concentration of Ascorbic Acid paired with Ferulic Acid and Pinus Pinaster Bark Extract) work synergistically to further stabilize the Vitamin C and increase its antioxidant benefits. The formulation is smooth, fluid, transparent, and fragrance-free and can be seamlessly applied with other products and makeup, unlike other products on the market that can pill, turn orange-brown, and leave unpleasant odors lingering on the skin.
About The MINIMALIST HYDRATING CREAM
MATTER OF FACT's MINIMALIST HYDRATING CREAM was designed to provide skin with comforting, mild hydration. It offers the perfect, gentle canvas on which to build an effective skincare routine. The MINIMALIST HYDRATING CREAM, which is bouncy and smooth with a non-heavy finish, can be used before or after any MATTER OF FACT product.
Inclusivity: For All Skin Types and Tones
Inclusivity is core to MATTER OF FACT's approach, mission, and the team itself. All of the brand's products were developed, tested, and intended for people with fair skin, dark skin, and everything in between. MATTER OF FACT conducted studies in South Korea and Brazil in an effort to capture a variety of skin tones and types. While scientific literature shows that discolorations are a near-universal sign of photoaging across different skin tones, more deeply pigmented skin types are especially vulnerable to it. It is highly problematic that the most researched and available tools, such as hydroquinone, present a higher incidence of side effects in darker-toned individuals—including rebound pigmentation that is worse than the discolorations originally present. This leaves those most in need of effective and safe brightening treatments in a conundrum. Core to the brand is a commitment to serving the skin care needs of people from a wide range of skin tones.
About The Team + Funding
MATTER OF FACT has raised over $10 million in funding from notable investors, including Horizons Ventures, Cowboy Ventures and First Round Capital, where they've partnered with Hayley Barna, who co-founded Birchbox before becoming a venture capitalist in 2016. Michelle Lee, industry veteran and former Editor-in-Chief of Allure, has also made an investment in the company - her first investment in a beauty brand to-date.
The advisory board includes Dr. Tim McCraw, Ph.D., an experienced executive with strength in taking new and emerging technologies to the marketplace, and Dr. Michael Garner, MD, FAAD, a board-certified dermatologist/partner at Boone Dermatology Clinic, with an expertise in general dermatology, dermatologic surgery and laser surgery, and a special interest in skin cancer, wound healing and atopic dermatitis.
Dr. McCraw notes: "As a beauty innovation expert with decades of experience, it's been rare for me to meet a new company that has even one truly innovative technology, so MATTER OF FACT's portfolio of IP really stands out. The Vitamin C technologies, in particular, are ones that I believe will dramatically disrupt the market and set the new standard in clinical skincare."
Dr. Garner adds: "MATTER OF FACT's well-designed clinical studies demonstrating stability and efficacy are highly impressive and exciting. This is the exact evidence-based approach that dermatologists need to see in order to make confident recommendations to our patients. It's very rare to see brands with MATTER OF FACT's level of dedication to clinical data."
