Dr Michael Kezian a Los Angeles cosmetic dentist is warded the Armenian Athlete Award in 2019 and will participate in the iron man competition in Santa Rosa California

Known as the “Ironman Dentist” by some of his closest friends and patients, Dr. Michael Kezian is a practicing dentist in Los Angeles, California. He’s known his whole life that he wanted to become a dentist, just like his parents Dr. Arthur Kezian and Dr. Narine Tashjian. After graduating with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2013 from the University of Pacific’s accelerated program, Michael entered a General Practice Residency at the Fresno VA Hospital.

During his education, Dr. Michael joined Fresno’s Knights of Vartan in 2014, a non-sectarian, non-political and non-denominational organization that emphasizes service, disciple, and knightly virtues. In conjunction with his work and education, Michael was also pursuing his love of athletics and became an avid cyclist and runner. It’s organizations the Knights of Vartan, coupled with his participation in triathlons that have enriched his approach in his life and in his dental practice.

His love for endurance and his drive to compete led him to his nickname, the “Ironman Dentist,” as he soon became enthralled with Ironman competitions. The Ironman Triathlon includes a 2.4 mile open-water swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and full marathon run, which is 26.2 miles. This type of competition has pushed him to complete rigorous training, and this attitude and drive have been reflected in his dental practice. He has “the drive and motivation to set goals and fulfill the dreams of being the best you can be,” and it shows both in his business and in his personal life.

Recently, Dr. Michael Kezian attended the 54th Annual Award of the Knights of Vartan Tri-Lodge Banquet on April 28, 2019, and was awarded the Armenian Athlete Award. A great reflection of his athletic ability and dedication to being the best version of himself, this award was well deserved. This award is also a legacy for him, as his own grandfather, Deran Tashjian, has won the same ward for Outstanding Athletic Achievement.

Similar to his grandson, Deran Tashjian has led an amazing life. Having been born in Massachusetts, his parents made a life-changing decision right before his high school graduation to move to Soviet-Armenia in 1949. Though the transition was anything but easy, Deran’s athletic abilities proved to be his saving grace, and he quickly rose through the ranks. Though nearly being able to compete in the 1952 Summer Olympics, Deran’s career was prematurely ended due to an extreme industry.

However, this set back didn’t stop his career from blossoming, and Deran Tashjian soon became a successful track and field coach - a career that lasted over 20 years. During this time he trained numerous successful and award-winning athletes. After a rewarding career as a coach, Deran moved back to the United States with his wife and children in 1975. Nowadays, you can find Deran and his wife serving The Knights and Daughters of Vartan, helping meet the needs of passionate Armenian people.

When he’s not training for grueling and impressive triathlons, you can find Dr. Michael Kezian working hard at his practice as a cosmetic dentist . He opened his dental office in Los Angeles, California a few years ago, Larchmont Dental Associates. His office focuses on cosmetic dentistry, advanced surgical procedures, dental implants, and emergency cases. He wants to be considered the “community’s emergency dentist,” a place you can call whenever you have a dental emergency. Whether it’s a Sunday morning or a crisis in the middle of the day, you or your family can call Michael and he will be there to help.

His dedication to being the best dentist available and reaching his goals is something that has been passed down from his family. Michael’s dental path was laid out at a young age. Spending countless hours at his parents’ dental practice, he fell in love with dentistry in the waiting room. Believing that dentistry can and should be fun, Michael’s career is still taking off. His life passion has always been to help people achieve better versions of themselves. He has big goals for his business and he has a passion for succeeding and accomplishing what he sets out to. In everything Dr. Michael does, he gives it a 100% effort, whether it’s in his dental office or during a competition.

Following in his grandfather’s footsteps, Dr. Michael isn’t done competing yet, and probably won’t be for a long time! A champion of good health and an advocate for reaching big goals, his next Ironman competition is May 11, 2019. As an Ironman triathlete, Michael has a fat to muscle ration of less than 8%, and he has a very unique and strict diet. However, according to him, the mental component of this competition is the most challenging part. He has spent a year prepping himself for it, saying “It is important to see past the failure…and see your dream at the end of the tunnel.” Having competed before, he knows what to expect from the competition and is ready to reach his goals!
