Executive protection training is crucial to anyone wishing to build a career as a PSD (Personal Security Detail)/overseas contractor.

Israeli Tactical School has recently debuted an executive protection training program that is largely based on the system developed by the internationally renowned Israeli Security Agency (Shin Bet). The program is led by Tomer Israeli, a former Shin Bet officer himself with extensive experience in executive protection as well as combat.

Executive protection training is crucial to anyone wishing to build a career in the protective services industry, specifically as a PSD (Personal Security Detail)/overseas contractor. Candidates with relevant military background who served in hostile Middle Eastern countries (such as Afghanistan, Iraq, and others) protecting dignitaries certainly have an advantage over the competition. However, according to ASIS International, substantial training (along with certification where applicable) is a determining factor in hiring and career advancement.

In line with best practices for executive protection training as per the Shin Bet, Israeli Tactical School's newly established program tackles hard, soft, and specialty skills, such as:

  • Prevention skills. Techniques such as profiling, routine break, and "avoid-tracking" are key factors in the success of any protection mission.
  • Planning skills. Protection missions require careful planning and analysis of the protectee's schedule, limitations, resources, and considerations of other parties involved.
  • Conducting the mission according to a plan requires the team to have a set of skills beyond combat abilities and prevention techniques. Operators need to be reliable, self-driven, independent, mature, determined, team-oriented, and possessing of common sense. Additionally, they need to be highly adaptable.
  • PSD bodyguards need to master urban CQB, CQC (Close Quarter Combat) tactics, and handling of vehicles in case of emergency.

The Shin Bet approach, implemented and honed over the years, enables agents to protect extremely sensitive, high-profile assets from attacks of varied sorts. It emphasizes practical, hands-on exercises (85% - 90%) over theory. See below for a sample schedule:
