IT Jobs Increased by 13,600 in January
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 26, 2015 -- The IT industry gained 13,600 jobs across several sectors for the month of January, according to the latest employment numbers from the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics released on February 6, 2015.
January’s job numbers in the data processing, hosting and related services industry increased by 1.16 percent to 287,600 total jobs over the previous month. Over the last 12 months the industry has increased by 4.6 percent, from 274,900 in January 2014. This industry data includes computer programmers, computer support specialists, computer systems analysts, application developers, and systems software developers.
The computer and electronic product manufacturing subsector, which includes computer hardware engineers, computer software engineers (applications and systems software), electrical and electronic engineering technicians and equipment assemblers, and semiconductor processors, grew by 0.21 percent or 2,300 jobs. Computer systems design and related services, a part of the professional and business services sector, grew by 0.44 percent or 8,000 jobs in January.
Across all industries, total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 252,000 jobs in December with job gains in professional and business services, construction, food services and drinking places, health care, and manufacturing.
Across all industries, total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 257,000 in January, with job gains in retail trade, construction, health care, financial activities, and manufacturing. The unemployment rate, at 5.7 percent, changed little in January and has shown no net change since October. The number of unemployed persons remains little changed at 9.0 million for the month of January.
Employment numbers were revised for both November and December, from 353,000 to 423,000 jobs and 252,000 to 329,000 jobs respectively. With these revisions, employment gains for both months combined were 147,000 higher than previously reported. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the revisions are a result additional reports received from businesses since the last published estimates, the monthly recalculation of seasonal factors, and the annual benchmark process.
