James Gilling Joins Abt Associates as Regional Vice President, East Asia and Pacific

James Gilling has joined Abt Associates as regional vice president, East Asia and Pacific. He brings 35 years of experience in social and economic development in low- and middle-income countries.

“James has dedicated his career to promoting social and economic progress in poor countries,” said Jacqui De Lacy, Chief Global Development Officer. “His knowledge of the Pacific and South East Asia will enable us to provide even greater support to all of our clients in the region.”

James Gilling has joined Abt Associates as regional vice president, East Asia and Pacific. He brings 35 years of experience in social and economic development in low- and middle-income countries. Since 2001, he has led Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade aid programs, overseeing annual budgets as large as AUD1.4B and staffs that exceeded 100 people. He has worked with a variety of Australian government agencies, including Defence, Home Affairs, and Health. James has worked and lived long-term in Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Fiji and Indonesia, worked for UK aid program, and held economic advisory roles in private and public organizations.

As regional vice president for East Asia and the Pacific based in Canberra, Australia, James will ensure that Abt’s development and technical work continue to deliver the highest quality impact for its clients.

James holds an M.Sc. in agricultural economics from Oxford University and a B.A. in economics and agricultural economics from Nottingham University.
