James T. O'Brien Joins MPI as Managing Director
Lawrenceville, NJ (PRWEB) August 30, 2017 -- MPI, a business valuation, M&A advisory and litigation firm, announced its continued expansion into complex commercial damages and forensic accounting projects with the hiring of James T. O’Brien, CPA/CFF. Mr. O’Brien brings almost 30 years of experience providing clients with expert witness services. Mr. O’Brien has focused his practice on providing damage calculations in complex commercial litigation and forensic accounting investigations. In addition, Mr. O’Brien frequently assists clients in documenting insurance claims such as flood, fire, or theft losses that impact business operations.
Mr. O’Brien has provided clients with expert witness consulting in federal and state courts across the country. He has also been nationally recognized for his contributions and guidance to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), by actively participating in the following tasks forces:
• Litigation Services Task Force (2009 – 2013)
• Fraud Task Force (2013 – 2015)
• Lost Profits Task Force (2014 – 2016)
Mr. O’Brien, in his role on the Litigation Services Task Force, was one of seven members selected nationally to draft the practice aid “Serving as an Expert Witness or Consultant”. Mr. O’Brien was one of nine task force members who drafted the “Forensic Accounting – Fraud Investigations” practice aid. He is also a co-author of the report writing guide entitled “Forensic Accounting: Investigation Report Writing.” The Report Writing Guide provides AICPA members a resource containing best practices and approaches when drafting forensic accounting reports. In addition to the publications with the AICPA, Mr. O’Brien has co-authored a chapter in the Business Valuation Resources publication, “The Comprehensive Guide to Lost Profit Damages for Experts and Attorneys.” This chapter focuses on the Methods and Procedures for properly calculating lost profit damages.
Mr. O’Brien is also a frequent speaker on calculating damages and performing forensic investigations. He has presented at the National AICPA Forensic and Valuations Services Conference as well as the AICPA’s web series “Voices of Fraud.” This December, Mr. O’Brien will be speaking at the ABA’s Construction Super Conference in Las Vegas. His role will focus on the best practice in the presentation of a damage claim to a jury. Prior to joining MPI, Mr. O’Brien was a Partner in the National Forensic, Litigation and Valuation Services Group for Baker Tilly Virchow Krause in Philadelphia. Prior to Baker Tilly, Mr. O’Brien worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Financial Advisory Services Group.
Mr. O’Brien is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) by the AIPCA. He is also a member of the AICPA and the Pennsylvania Institute of Public Accountants. Mr. O’Brien received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from York College of Pennsylvania.
