Jason Hope Points to Retail as Next Internet of Things Frontier
Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) October 28, 2014 -- According to Pew Research Internet Project, 83 percent of surveyed individuals believe that the growth of the Internet of Things will have a positive impact on life. TheITWeb article (10 Oct 2014) entitled "Retail realities of the Internet of Things," quoted research done by the Digital Solutions Group. Yaron Assabi, the group's founder, believes that "When IOT meets the consumer space, retailers will need to rethink the traditional retail store, because customers, who are accustomed to their connected devices at home, cars and in the workplace, will expect a similar experience while shopping."
Jason Hope, futurist and entrepreneur, believes this will change the retail experience, but not in the way people think. Many consumers picture a future where items are bought and sold entirely online. While people will be making an increasing number of purchases online, that's just one way in which the retail experience is going to change.
"Look at developments like iBeacon technology, for example, that beams information about products directly to phones and other connected devices to improve the shopping experience. The retail store in the near future will look much different than it does today, even while still maintaining the brick-and-mortar storefront," Hope said.
"Digital currencies are also growing in importance," he continued. "People want to be able to pay via PayPal or a mobile payment app, even when shopping at Target."
The ITWeb article agreed, claiming that the greater convenience and even security of mobile payment apps is appealing to the vast majority of consumers. The article encourages retailers not to view these new payment options as threats, but as a way to embrace new customers and offer a better customer experience.
